Hey CreepyJeepy,
I am very confused you are getting such bad performance - my experience has been completely different with the same outside temps and a lot more weight:

Happened three times to me where the brakes practically locked up. Twice when people pulled out in front of me - I saw them coming and was adjusting my pace. Apparently the truck thought I should have done that sooner. Once just out of the blue when turning at the end of a metal bridge - I guess...
Updating my earlier post. Finally skinned the cap. I don't own a sheet metal brake so finish quality is not what I would hope for but its functional - no leaks!!
Nicnamed Frank as I also suck at welding aluminum - its about as pretty as Frankenstein!!
Real happy with the back lid - is ~1/2"...
I have about 5k on my diesel now and have been pulling a 4.5k trailer about every other weekend. I am so surprised at the fuel economy (29mpg avg empty and 21 pulling) but even more enjoyable - and the reason I spent so much more on it - is max torque at ~1600rpm and max hp at ~2200rpm. No high...
Up to about 1200 miles I was getting no more than 24.
At 5000 miles I average 28+ empty and 19-21 towing a 4500lb trailer.
Everything is stock.
If I practice "hypermiling" I can just about get to 31.
But it takes all the FUN away.
Hi Adam,
Looks like you did what you can to distribute the weight around and the stability of the ride is the payoff - nice job.
I'm not an engineer so I cant speak to what this rig CAN do - just that going over the maximum rating opens you up to risk that (IMO) is just not worth it. You can...
Looks great.
Are you concerned about overloading the front end at all?
My Overland Diesel hits the bumpers if I go over to big a bump so I know I don't have much weight to spare up front.
This will be covered with aluminum. I plan to have no side doors and the back hatch will be locked in place by the tailgate - which conveniently locks. While looking for paint I find the PSC color is $110 / quart... wow
You all will probably laugh but I made a cap inclosure out of a full sized one. Its not done and I truly suck at TIG welding aluminum so Ive named it Frank (Short for Frankenstein). When its done I'll share more but here's the start. Figure to have about $400 into it including paint... we will see.
Sure do.
I mounted a VIAIR 48042 200psi compressor on a Vixen horns 5gal tank. Cost me about $350 in parts but works fantastic. Compressor is 12v/22Amp and needs a direct battery connection. Has a 100% duty cycle at 100psi/72°F. Not quite finished and a bit of an overkill for my needs but is...
To be quite honest I wanted a JT in Canary yellow (Hellayella) with the black fenders, grill and roof. Was very disappointed that you can get a wrangler in yellow but not the gladiator
I took a trip to Maine from CT last weekend.
Should have posted here...
Posted my results and recommendations here:

Other than the unbelievable fuel mileage the trip went as...
Towed camper to Maine from CT over the weekend. First time towing long distance.
Towing was better than I expected… with a few caveats.
I wanted to share for anyone considering this as a towing option.
I bought the Gladiator specifically for this setup… and, in my opinion, it just barely does it...
After 3K miles and a few months I can still say I love to drive this jeep.
There a sooo many little quirks that are built in that have been mentioned and some of them are annoying to me, but thats it... just a little annoyances. Having it slam into park when I opened my door to look back was...
I found that with the eight speed auto if I pull the shifter to manual mode it deactivates the auto shut off. While I like the idea of it I can't say its easy for me to adjust too. Studies show it helps with emissions for commuting - ie heavy traffic, but it does add to the wear and tear...
Spoke with the manager of the dealership.
Wanted to be sure they understood I was not escalating this to a problem - just voicing my frustration. Told him I have serviced/fixed my own vehicles my whole life and this is my first new purchase. So "if I'm being unreasonable" just be straight with...
