I'm planning a long overland trip (Qatar to UK) so gas mileage (have you seen the prices in Europe!) and security concerns have led me to a half height enclosed canopy. Nuthouse industries do some excellent canopies but with zero availability here in Qatar, I had a local company make up...
I run the 35" KO2 E and air down regularly for the dunes and they work just fine. On road the ride is good and the stiffer sidewall I don't think is noticeable.
I'm running the stock wheel with no spacers, just a 1.5" level in the front.
I just used one of the existing bumper holes. The front is good as we tend not to go over the dunes backwards and the slight forward rake actually means the flag is quite straight when motoring.
I went with shocks only as I'm not really looking to go higher. I believe the springs are a 50mm (1.96") but have read on Landcruiser and Tacoma forums they get nearly 3". These don't address the rake which was the other reason for me not going with the springs. shocks cover 0-2" lift and are...
Longevity is one of my concerns, compounded that here in Qatar we spend a lot of the year with high temps and humidity (plastics seem to age quite quickly). Has anyone on here run them in the hotter states of the US?
Sure here you go. I'll admit to using Nuthouse Industries' (US) covers as inspiration, I love what they do, but cost (and shipping to Qatar) makes them a non-starter for me.
Things I don't like on mine, hinges are flimsy, side handles in chrome not black and the rear door being at just the...
I have just fitted the foam cell pro (comfort valving) and I'm delighted with the improvement over the very under damped Rubicon shocks. No more mad waggling head dances and body roll and weight transfer fwd/ backwards is much better. Doing some mild off roading this weekend and articulation...
I'm just about to install my Airlift 1000 bags and have seen on YouTube them fitted with a single fill and a dual fill. On a single fill (and T-piece to both bags), will air not transfer from one bag to the other when cornering, unhelpfully 'lifting' the unloaded side?
I haven't weighed it but the canopy design came in at about 60/70kg and I believe the RTT is quite light at 40-50kg so 'worst case' 150kg over stock. There is the slightest reduction in rear ride height with the set up, but the general wobbliness of the JTR as standard was too much.
Ride is...
The cap I had made locally, all aluminium with power and light. All in it was about $1600 but labour here (Qatar) is cheaper. Quality wise it's very good and the guys who built it do a lot of overland and dune bashing rigs.
Have you done a cold check of the oil level, any signs of leaks, any contamination of the coolant that may point to head issues, did the Jeep overheat or appear to be running high temps?
I'm really hoping it's a mechanical issue rather than dealer/ mechanic incompetence, that is truly worrying.
Installed a Bestop Sunrider (love it), Ironman 4x4 Foam Cell Pro shocks (fantastic value, hugely robust and perform brilliantly on and off road (definitely worth checking out for a cost-effective alternative to the mainstream)) and a tow hitch.
Then went off-roading.
