My Sunrider is open 50% of the time. I have a co-worker who is on his second JL, and has never even taken the freedom panels off of either one. I don't get it.
I like it.
A guy in my neighborhood has a perfect YJ from the first movie. In between cruising around town on weekends, he actually gets a little side money putting on a costume and bringing the Jeep to local events at the fairgrounds, science museum, zoo, etc.
Just how widespread / common is this issue of door hinges, doors, hoods and tailgates corroding under the paint? (Perhaps this belongs in a different forum but I thought it more of a general experience / opinion topic). After reading other forums and visiting FB pages dedicated to JL's and...
I'm really wondering how a small displacement with turbo / larger tires will work out. Since everyone is going that way, I'll guess we'll soon see. Won't it always be up on boost? Like all the time?
I've only had mine for three months and I'm already checking it every time I drive it (weekends) thanks to all these posts. Sucks I have to worry about such on a brand new vehicle.
I wonder if there are any statistics on Gladiators which are more prone, like color, year, location, etc.
I really never knew this was such an issue until I joined a GLadiator Facebook page the other day....and....damn. That's a whole, whole lot of people complaining about corrosion on the hoods, tailgates, and doors.
I intended to purchase a white one, and I already had the name "Artax" picked out (I thought it would have been a riot, especially considering our Florida mud). But, I ended up with a hydro-blue, so no Artax. My girlfriend calls it "Big-Blue", but I cannot bring myself to do that when I live...
I'm "lucky" enough to have these people right down the street from me...and you're absolutely right. It seems like all they turn out are super tacky six-wheeled Gladiators with extra-ridiculous angry grills and hideous anodized low profile wheel / tire combos.
I've quite worried I'll end up doing that with the Sunrider open. In my case, with a hardened hurricane door, it''ll be the Jeep that takes the damage.
I have a Cadillac with a Northstar in it that liked to consume oil. I relied on the sensor, AND the dipstick to be sure.....and it's a good thing I did - because one day the sensor stopped working.
No dipstick is a deal killer for me (not that I want a turbo engine anyway).
Possibly something organic (plant, reptile or insect based) you picked up on the trail? In South Florida we pick up all kinds of stuff in the swamp / flats.
So far, I've only gotten one - but the Gladiator is in the garage except for weekends. I def don't want that dash full of ducks that it seems everyone around here has, but it was nice.
