I had no idea there were dozens of XJ clones (knockoffs of the Beijing Jeep license-built XJ): A Deep-Dive Into The History Of China's Bizarre Jeep Cherokee XJ Clones - The Autopian
Just did my first ever Jeep Adventure Academy (Inks Ranch/Austin), and at least with the Mojave (4.10) the thing literally crawls by itself in 4Lo + first gear.
Pretty awesome project (and a huge undertaking)!
On the CAN side, I've always been fascinated by how these JL/JT engine swaps were even possible (other than black electrical tape over the DTC warning on the dash? :) What DTCs are being reported?
When I swapped the PCM on my ancient '00 WJ, it...
I'll admit I occasionally check out BaT to ogle first and second generation Caravans/Voyagers... a five speed even pops up occasionally:
No Reserve: 1993 Dodge Caravan 5-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions - sold for $7,800 on October 4, 2023 (Lot #122,826) | Bring a Trailer
I'm quickly cured of...
So the two outboard seatbelt buckles in the JT are ridgid metal plates with a vertical travel stop on them that really makes it difficult (impossible for me) to get the Diono cinched down properly in either outboard position.
The center seatbelt buckle in the JT is on a totally different...
@Mojave20 - how much play did the seat have in it when it was "done"? Same Diono Radian 3R, or one of their other models?
The Graco barely moves half an inch with the same technique (knee in the seat and full body weight while pulling the slack in).
Hi folks,
I'm trying to install a Diono Radian 3R car seat (forward-facing) and for the life of me can't get the thing cinched down after fooling with it for over an hour. I've tried both the included LATCH anchor and the vehicle seat belt. The Radian 3R is replacing a rear-facing Graco...
Hah, I like the "JT" your local Kfz-Zulassungsstelle allowed on the registration. We had friends (Luftwaffe family) that moved back to Weilheim i.OB from Texas, and all their cars had "WM-TX ###" plates :)
Aha! Was the donor ZJ a manual or an automatic? Clearly the PCM isn't freaking out about the missing TCM, if it was an auto.
Some neat hacks there, to keep the stock cruise lever and cable-driven Eagle instrument cluster (while keeping the PCM happy). I think the '96 XJ to MJ swap is quite a...
Pretty amazing restoration - in terms of the modules you pulled from the ZJ, they're still programmed with the VIN, etc., from the donor?
WJ is definitively from the PCI bus era, but how about the ZJ? With a WJ electronics transplant, you'd bring over one module and you'd eventually get stuck...
Probably the same as most regulatory-induced choices we have to make.
Most folks in the U.S. completely fail to use turn signals, yet manufacturers keep putting them on vehicles for some reason.
If Chrysler was allowed by U.S. DOT to make turn signals a $500 option, would you keep the cash?
A manual transmission is actually the best use case for ESS.
I want to say BMW started doing it around 2009 or so in their EU market manual transmission models. Their automatics came a few years later, because it's a little more difficult to discern what the driver is about to do next with...
