  1. [POLL] Will you be purchasing/trading in for a 2025 Gladiator 4xe?

Add me to the, "Hell yeah! If it comes with a manual" Pile.
  2. Jeep Technician (And Gladiator Owner) Discusses Common Questions and Problems on TrailRecon

Yeah, air cooled singles and twins are as easy as it gets. Those air cooled BMW boxers are wonderfully simple. I guess I have just been working on a lot of inline-4s lately, and they are a real PITA to get to everything. The Gold Wing flat 4 is so much easier to work on. 5 minutes to synch...
  3. Strike has begun

I'd happily take either, but I certainly wouldn't call wanting more time outside of work being lazy. Productivity is WAY up from a couple of decades ago. Why shouldn't we all benefit from that by working less? Lobbying is an unfortunate part of the political landscape right now. As long as...
  4. Strike has begun

As a union worker myself(UFCW), I hope they can work out a good deal for themselves. I spent years getting screwed over by corporations because I didn't have a union and the fees I spend now on union membership are some of the best money I have ever spent. Nothing beats the job security and...
  5. Jeep Technician (And Gladiator Owner) Discusses Common Questions and Problems on TrailRecon

Inline-6 motors are just hard to screw up. Off the top of my head, the 4.0, Ford 300, and Chrysler slant-6 were just unkillable motors. BMW, Toyota, and Nissan had some pretty awesome I-6 motors as well. Bonus on the SOHC and DOHC motors is only one head to deal with so they were...
  6. JT Gladiator Manual Transmission - Gear Disengagement (Popping Out of Gear)

I was just coming here to start a thread on this, but this is VERY appropriate, so I will just take it over. At the end of last year, my transmission started popping out of second gear at around 10,000 miles. It gradually worsened until it would rarely stay in second gear. I took it to the...
  7. How far is your JT making it up this hill?

Sand is absolutely NOT my element, but there is a reason that "crawl ratio" is a thing. I would like to see how mine would do in 4-low 1st with the lockers engaged, just ride the brake all the way up.
  8. Got Stuck Today; Need ELocker Help: Sport, Manual Trans

Another thing you can try in that situation is using the hand brake as traction control. Saved me a few times when I had open diff 4wds spinning one in the front and one in the back. Doesn't look like any kind of traction board or pad would've helped where you were. Does anyone still make...
  9. No more Parts and Services for EcoDiesel at jeep Dealership.

I think the key is just to find a dealership that treats you right, no matter the brand. They are out there. Usually, the more rural the better in my experience. The urban dealerships tend to have a large customer base and it hurts less when they lose one.
  10. Clutch Recall (2/23/23): Clutch Pressure Plate May Overheat -- Affecting 70,000 Manual Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators

Shadier dealers will add all sorts of crap to vehicles, sneak it into the invoice, and hope you will just pay for it. You can avoid most of this by custom ordering, but if you are buying off of a lot, always read through everything they are charging you for. When I did photography for car...
  11. It’s a sad day for my baby. I got rear ended by a Ford F-250. I don’t know what hurts more…

OOF! Sorry for your losses. I use stories like these to remind myself that riding a motorcycle in traffic requires paranoid levels of awareness. The old saying rings so true to me even after 20+ years of riding. "He was right. Dead right. But he is just as dead as if he'd been wrong."
  12. Wide vs Narrow Off-Road Tires -- a Scientific Comparison

I put 33x10.5 BFGs on my TJ when I lived in Arizona and never looked back. I ran them as low as 8-10psi on stock wheels with no problems and the traction on rocks was wonderful. I plan to wear out the stock MTs on my JT then get the narrowest 35s I can find. The science is sound and I like...
  13. Clutch Recall (2/23/23): Clutch Pressure Plate May Overheat -- Affecting 70,000 Manual Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators

All my daily drivers and my motorcycles in the last 20+ years have been manuals. Class AM license older. Not sure what the experience really matters in this discussion but here are my views on the JT clutch and transmission: I have the 4:10 gears. First gear is great, could be even shorter...
  14. Flex test - stock Rubicon vs Mojave

It doesn't tell us much, but it is interesting. I would have liked to see each do the same thing locked, but he would need a longer ramp. Would make an interesting comparison to see just how much the locked front diff helps the Rubicon.
  15. Owners thoughts please

Same here. No manual made the decision easy for me. If the diesel was available with a manual I would probably have one. It's hard to explain to people who prefer or even can "live with" automatics. I just don't like driving automatics, no matter how "good" they are.
  16. 6MT Manual Transmission Failure - Warranty Experience Sucks

I had a lot going on so didn't post it on here, but I had my transmission replaced last December at around 10k miles. It wasn't catastrophic like this one. Second gear just slowly started popping out of gear more and more often on downshifts and later upshifts as well. At first I thought I...
  17. Cant top off fuel tank

You can go pretty far after range says "low". I was curious and drove around with a can of gasoline, but not curious enough to run it dry. Even then I barely got 20 gallons in before shutoff. I'm guesstimating at range "low", you still have around 3.5 gallons left in the tank.
  18. Clutch Recall (2/23/23): Clutch Pressure Plate May Overheat -- Affecting 70,000 Manual Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators

Yes, but we don't know if they are replacing the clutch with a different design, or replacing it with the original design in case your current clutch is damaged.
  19. Clutch Recall (2/23/23): Clutch Pressure Plate May Overheat -- Affecting 70,000 Manual Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators

Did you try 4-low? The clutch is subpar for sure, but the stock gearing is also way too tall which just magnifies its shortcomings. I mostly don't mind the clutch in any application. It's not good, but the lightness is a nice change from the heavy clutches I'm used to.
  20. EV - not ready for the masses?

I work in fuels and would LOVE to see a better EV infrastructure. My job title is literally "Fuel Distribution System Operator" though its kind of an over-simplification. I work in the receipt, storage, transfer, issuing, and returning to bulk of fuels and cryogenics. Hydrogen has no chance...
