17 X 37 or 20 X 38 which is lighter, which handles better?

Depends on the wheels and tires, you can get heavy 17s and light 20s, but if you are going straight lightest the 17s should weigh less

I would agree it all depends on your needs and driving conditions.

If you are going off-road the 17 inch size is more common for a larger sidewall. Let us know if we can help.

You need to define "Handles Better" for us. Around town, highway, track, dirt roads, rocks. It will help get you a better answer.

As en ex. picking up a random Method wheel... 305 with bolt pattern for us, note this particular 20" is also 1.5" wider

17x8.5 30.7 lbs
20x10 36.0 lbs

KO2 tires
17x37 weight is 69.67 lbs
20x37 is 66.53 lbs

total for this setup would be
17" rim - 100.37
20" rim - 102.54

You wouldn't notice any difference in the weight.
