2020 Steering box.

Hey, I got the recall replacement steering box changed out about after 6mon of ownership due the aluminum box issues. Anyone have issues with the replacement cast iron as well? I’m getting play in the steering and everything seems to be looking at that and can imagine the dealership kicking me out the door with the upgrades I have.

And yes, everything is tight and also have an MC brace on it. Just have a dead/extra play in it now.

Just my two cents.

You can still have play after the steel steering box. Everything has to be torqued to specs. I had my steering box replaced almost 4yrs ago because I just wanted it replaced. And it was under warranty. I actually started having issues right after. Found out myself that they didn't properly torque the pitman arm nut. Did it myself and problem solved. I have since added a MC sector shaft brace. Some components can't be visually inspected. For example: The pitman arm nut is around 184 ft/lbs. So, maybe you have another issue. If they're going to replace it for free, TAKE IT! But if you have to pay for it, make sure everything is to spec before you start spending money.

From what i gathered regardless of aluminium or steel steering box they can be adjusted to reduce play if you want to yourself. You could still get a steel one with lots of play if the dealership doesn't adjust them properly. I left my aluminium one alone and did not have mine replaced as I don't believe my dealership could handle the job.

And... I would agree with your way of thinking. That's what happened to me. Dealer replaced and I had to adjust myself.
