This is my first real issue since buying the truck in 2021. Last month, just before hitting 40k miles, I had the front and rear axle fluids changed. During the service, my mechanic found a large metal chunk in the rear axle and advised me to follow up with the dealer since the truck is still under warranty.

I dropped the truck off Monday night and got a call Tuesday saying the rear differential needs to be replaced. The dealership is currently sending photos to corporate for approval.

Thankfully, it’s still under warranty, but I’m curious about others’ experiences. How long did the repair take? Did you have any issues afterward? And were you provided a rental car or reimbursement?

My local 4wd shop found the weld rosettes on my driver side front axle tube leaking about 6 months ago while under the truck for another reason. The manager called me over to look at it, and I told him my warranty was out- he reminded me that the power train warranty was still active (2021 Mojave with 31K miles). We cleaned it up and I rechecked about a week later and it was indeed weeping in two or three places. The local Jeep Dealership Service Manager had some tracer dye put in, I drove it for two weeks and brought it back and they ordered a new axle tube for me under warranty. This is not the same problem you are experiencing, but I thought I would mention this anyway since this weeping axle tube could lead to diff or bearing problems for those forum members making water crossings. It took about 2 weeks to get the new axle tube in stock. Since I could still drive it, I was not provided with a rental vehicle, and it was a one day turnaround job.

My driveline was clicking and popping last June. I wasn’t sure if it was the diff, a joint, or the driveshaft support bearing. They kept it a week, and replaced the rear diff under warranty. First, they tried to tell me it was because of the “big tires”, and the lift. I informed the service tech that they had installed all of that before I ever saw the truck or even test drove it, before I bought it new. The next day, they called and said it was a factory defect and they were replacing it. I recently have begun to think it has started again, but not as noticeable as the first time. Hopefully, if it is, they’ll fix it.
