Valve train sounds don't normally go away when fully warmed up. **It’s a 2022 with 13k miles and I noticed it makes a knocking sound once I start it. When I drive it, the sound is gone when fully warmed up.
Exaust leaks (ticks), if not real bad go away after warm up.Valve train sounds don't normally go away when fully warmed up. **
There can be valve train sounds that disappear after 2 or 3 seconds due to lash adjusters having bled down, and refilling, but if there's a bad valve train component, it will be there always bad, always making noises.
If a part is worn and the lash adjuster can't take all of the lash or clearance out, it's going to tick at all times.
** however, if it's just barely out of the range where a lash adjuster can take care of it, and expansion ends up closing the gap - it's possible, but there's so little to expand on these in the way of valve train parts.
In a way, something makes me question a lash adjuster.......hanging up until hot and the oil thins just a bit.
What heat can impact is piston slap, exhaust leaks, that sort of thing.
A piston that is a bit loose when cold will expand and the sound will diminish with heat and driving.
This really doesn't have the sound of piston slap. That's a slightly less "ticky" sound.
Exhaust leaks can "tick" but this sounds more metallic.
Hard to tell on a computer from a phone-created video/audio.
If it is the valve train tic, you will make it worse, but you replace all the related parts one way or the other. You would change your oil a couple times just to flush out what metal there is from the damage. The only thing now, if this is your problem you still may be waiting for parts for the repair.Yeah I’m not really sure what this sound is. It worries me, but then it’s gone by the time I get to work ( 10 mins away). I just don’t want to have an issue and I’m making it worse.
Nah this is a different noise. A knock coming from the bottom of the engine. Not an exhaust leak either.Sounds exactly like my JKU when I had the infamous tick:
Here it is after the dealership fixed rocker arm lifters and all camshafts and $3584.24 later:
To me it sounds exactly the same, it's even on the same beat and same tone. But I hope it's not, that fix sucks and I really wished Jeep would fix it for free being it happens so often.Yeah this sound is different.
Yeah I agree with you. Was just curious on what that noise was, and if was even normal. To me it sounds exactly the same, it's even on the same beat and same tone. But I hope it's not, that fix sucks and I really wished Jeep would fix it for free being it happens so often.
Yeah, depending on the where, they often do..Exaust leaks (ticks), if not real bad go away after warm up.
I wouldn't call that a knock........... too high pitched. Not a bearing sound.A knock coming from the bottom of the engine.
JK had a different intake valve train. Those, the rollers went south - bearings inside them failed.Sounds exactly like my JKU when I had the infamous tick:

Injectors have the same beat timing as well. Once per every two crankshaft revolutions. To me it sounds exactly the same, it's even on the same beat and same tone.
