big time makes a difference. You will only get a 450 tongue and 4500 tow.

why such a huge difference is weight? I was originally using 4500lbs when I was searching for trailers. So a 3000lb dry travel trailer would be ok with 1000lbs of cargo in the trailer for hauling purposes? Sorry for the questions but this is a whole new world for me and dont want to make a purchase of this amount and not be able to do what we want it to.

Regarding the manual, many theorize that the oem clutch can’t handle it. But more importantly, the 8 speed is a very good transmission. It does a great job for towing. And Towing at 14 degree grades off road, I can’t get it to reach even 50 percent on the tranny temp gauge. It handles things really well.

Someone can explain difference better than me. But if you have a 4000 pounds trailer, you are going to squeak out that tongue weight (maybe), You have a good chance of having a tongue weight problem. . But even worse with the manual you might have trouble with your manual Rubi GVWR and not being able to manage people, cargo in truck and tongue weigh combined since your GCWR is so much lower. Remember you only get 10K GCWR with the manual. I get 12800 with my sport s max tow.

If you’re wanting to tow a decent size travel trailer, the automatic is a must. Other than that…go drive some and pick your flavor. I.e. I drove a Sport and a Rubicon and went with the Rubicon.

Well that might expain why the 6spd manual seems to be a good deal. Was hoping to keep the overall price down a bit with the manual but it appears it wont do all we are hoping it will.

Just for the record this is the one that she was eyeing.

If you want the best offroad, you may want to Get a rubi automatic and you will get the 700 tongue and 7000 tow. Just pay attention to potential payload issues.

You can do a little better on price if you search or drive further. I paid less than that for my rubi auto with leather, adaptive cruise, towing, cold weather, and safety package.

Granted mine is a 21, so prices increased, but I paid way less than that for a very similar manual Rubicon, with a few more options (proximity, cold weather, towing).

Agreed. Mine’s a 21 as well, but there are still some good deals to be had on lot inventory. 56 seems high for a manual.

Anyone mind explaining exactly what the altitude trim line is exactly? Thanks

I believe the Altitude is just an Overland with some added bling, like bigger wheels and body colored bumpers.

That’s high altitude. Altitude is different. I don’t know the details of that trim though. But I’d be shocked if it were rated for towing over 6k.

I am wondering if the Rubicon is the best option for both small travel trailer hauling and playing on the trails/mud. Thinking about pulling the trigger on a purchase just dont want to find out after, that a different trim would have been a better all around choice. Thanks
The overland will be your best daily driver

The overland has a lower towing capacity than both. The rubicon is 7,000, only 650 less than the max tow sport s. The rubicon is comfortable and has has all the creature comforts you can get with an overland. It then has front and rear lockers, 4:1 low range, swaybar disconnect, off road plus mode, and more. Whenever one of these rubicon vs not rubicon threads starts, the owners of non rubicons come out to say rubicons aren’t necessary. Let’s be honest. It’s the perfect trim for someone that wants to off road, and tow. It just is. The difference between the 4:1 low range and the one in the sports and overlands is night and day.
It’s not as good of a daily driver though as the sport and overland

People need to decide what they want for a daily driver. Personally….I thought the Sport was boring to drive. The Rubicon drives more like what I’d expect a Jeep to drive.

That being said…if you’re going to be running it up and down the freeway at 75+ MPH…I’d give that one some thought. My two cents…my Rubicon is fine at 72 MPH. Much more than that and It’s not exactly a relaxing ride.

Then again, you’ve got the whole “aerodynamics of a brick” thing and the fuel tank that seems to be about as big as my lawn tractor (it seems like I’m always filling it up), so I doubt that I’d be dying to roll much over 72 MPH even if I had opted to go the Overland route.
