Hi,
I recently replaced the passenger side intake cam on my truck. Maybe a week earlier I had the clutch recall done, replacing the clutch.
All was well, but pretty soon I noticed the dreaded 3000-3500 RPM rattle again. Most noticeable in 3rd, going uphill under load. I was fearing it was the cam again, but looking through some old threads, somebody once mentioned they had a rattle that went away with a little light pressure on the clutch. Another poster mentioned with an aftermarket clutch the noise went away.
Anyway, I hopped in the truck and tried putting my foot on the clutch a bit when the rattle occurred, and wouldn't ya know it, the rattle noise went away. So I thought I would post to say that maybe not all cases of the 3000 RPM rattle are due to a cam failure. What's the root cause for this particular rattle? Who knows, but something seems to be resonating at that RPM.
