At 60k miles my Gladiator developed the "tick". Replaced cams and lifters and it's been great for the next 40k miles. Recently when excelerating hard, I'll develop a misfire and will have to completely shut off the engine for it to go away. From what I understand, this may be due to the lifters not getting the proper amount of oil (any feedback appreciated). As soon as it warms up, I'll replace the plugs and pcv valve. But I started to worry that engine may be done for soon. Instead of replacing lifters and another cam, I'm leaning towards just replacing the heads. Is this a dumb idea? Completely heads would come with a warranty vs. a cart of parts.

Hemi swap. JK lol. TBH yeah i'd just swap heads if the cost was close enough. less things to torque down on install if half of it is done out of the box

Did the spark plugs get changed at 60K? Coils can start to fail under heavy acceleration also. Unless you have audible mechanical tick to assume it is lifter and valvetrain wear, I would throw a set of new OEM branded coils in with fresh spark plugs before even considering heads.

I'm definitely replacing the plugs soon, and might as well grab a set of coils while I'm in there. If that doesn't work I'll just replace the heads. Then I'll have a new top end.

Getting any codes for specific cylinders or just a generic P0300?

No codes at all. As soon as I shut the jeep off and back on, there isn't a CEL

You need to expand on this, explain it more fully.

The way it sounds right now, you get on the accelerator hard and the engine starts to misfire, and the engine then continues to misfire at all subsequent loads/throttle positions and revs including at idle, the only way to stop the misfire is to shut the engine off. After restarting the engine the misfire is now completely gone until you accelerate hard again.

Is there a CEL when the problem is occurring? If yes, is it on steady or is it flashing?

Sounds like you understood perfectly fine.

Yes CEL flashes while it's misfiring, then stops once I restart the engine. If I drive easy (normal to me) it doesn't misfire, just under hard acceleration, like getting up to speed to merge onto the highway in a short distance.
We just got back from a 750 mile trip to STL and never had an issue, but i never had to accelerate using higher RPMs.

Get a LS3 or LT1 swap and never worry again. Jeep engines are too problematic.

If I could find a reasonable DIY kit, I would. I have a LS long block in the garage at our lake house.

I've been waiting on RPM Supreme to start fielding their DIY kit for the JT but haven't seen it yet. Might just go it free range here soon and try to make it work without the Canbus and harness setup they sell which is first cabin. Will post here if I do so.
