35's and Rubicon Rims

Am thinking of moving to 35's soon. Would like to just keep using the Rubicon Rims. Are there any good tires what work with the Rubicon Rims or will I have to buy new rims. Not that I wouldn't mind some new rims but just trying to save some money and I like the Rubicon rims. Looking mostly at AT tires.

Toyo makes a 35x11.5x17 AT III, Kenda has the 35x10.5x17 either can be mounted on the stock 7.5” wide wheel. There are many that have mounted 315mm or 12.5” wide tires on the stock wheels but technically they are too narrow per the manufacture.

Was talking to the folks at DIscount tire and they told me they won't mount the 35's on the stock Rubicon Rims. Say I need a wider rim. Guess I could always try to find someone to mount them and just buy the tires or stick with the 33's. Don't really want to go to new rims. Ah decisions decisions.

Did they say that just about 35's in general, or those specific tires (Toyo's and Kenda's)? Most 35's are at least 12-12.5" wide, but with those tires at 10.5" or 11.5", a 7.5" rim should be within spec.

I didn't discuss any particular brand tire. Only that I was contemplating moving to 35's and would like to keep my current rims. I didn't discuss much in the way of size either other than 35's.

Not sure will have to educate myself a bit more on the tire size options although I don't really want to go to wide and would be fine staying somewhere in the same as the current Faulkens on the truck.

That's funny because the Discount near my house told me they would mount 12.5's on a stock 7.5" rim. I even called back to double check. I have Yokohama MT's on order in a 35x12.50 and plan on using my stock wheels.

I have been talking with the Don on the Web Forum and he has been very helpful and gave me some info that was much appreciated. They can do it with certain tires.

Yep they are Rubicon take off tires I purchased from another owner

I've seen folks put 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers on OEM wheels. I think that's where I was leaning if/when I use up the stock 33s. I really don't want to spend money on new wheels if I don't have to.

Same I like the Rubicon rims and the look, it goes very well with my sting grey plus it saves some money also. Although I have seen some 3rd party rims that I really liked as well. Once I burn a little more meat off the Rubicon take off's will be looking to make the move up. Now that my company is going back to the office and I will be having to likely make the two days a week 100 mile round trip commute that will come soon.

What was the info? I wonder why they will on some tires but not others. I really like the stock wheels and want to keep them on the rig.

This is a little info from Don at Discount tire and they were very helpful in getting me correct info. Hope it helps. I'll certainly get back with them once I am ready and have a idea on what I will be doing.

At Discount Tire we follow the industry standards when it comes to rim width. Per the T&RA build guidelines, tire size 35x12.50R-17 or 315/70R-17 is safely run on a 7.5-inch wide wheel and your local Discount Tire will mount this size for you. Just bear in mind that on a 7.5-inch wide wheel the tire will have a little more flex in the sidewall as opposed to when run on a wider wheel.
