I don't think most people hate 20s, they just don't see the point. It feels backwards, like putting a lift on a miata.

I'll admit I'm of that mindset as well, but I dont hate them. I just think if you're going to buy a vehicle that excels at a particular purpose, making mods that make it worse at the task does seem like an odd choice. There are plenty of other vehicles to choose from that suit that look better.

I've seen this take before and I always get confused by it. The Gladiator is not a Wrangler; it's a truck. If someone were strictly using it to rock crawl (I'm assuming this is your "particular purpose"), then I would question why not get a Wrangler with better approach/breakover/departure angles. For rock crawling, it's not a very efficient vehicle of choice.

Jeep sold 89,712 Gladiators in 2021. How many people do you think actually off-road their JTs? Many probably want a cool truck that's not a boring Colorado or a dinosaur Tacoma.

This is my first truck and my first Jeep. I take it to the mountains and the desert, but I definitely wouldn't say I "off-road". But I didn't buy it for that. I use it as a truck. I take all my wife's Christmas sh*t to the storage unit and cart all of my baseball gear to both of my sons' practices and games (I coach both of their teams). Sometimes my older son's travel team plays all the way on the other side of the county. I would not want to constantly drive my truck with huge mud tires.

And I have 20" wheels, which I prefer the wider traction and stability on the road. My Gladiator does everything with these wheels I need and more.

So to state that Gladiator owners who have 20" wheels are basically using them wrong (paralleled to a lifted Miata) is pretty short-sighted.

Example of hauling my wife's sh*t! :CWL:

This.

There's always been this purist/gatekeeper attitude in every hobby I've been into. I think it mostly just stems from, like you said, how you view the vehicle and its purpose.

Some people think that Jeeps are offroad vehicles first and foremost, and when people ask how to make them more comfy on-road, it makes them cringe and confused.

Some people (like me) just wanted a truck that could also go topless and that I could play Legos on. When I see people putting 40" tires on their Gladiators and bashing them against rocks, I cringe and kind of cry inside.

But, we bought them for different purposes. That's ok. There's no rulebook that says you can only use a Jeep for one thing.

I bought mine and sold my new f150 for that exact reason. I wanted a truck that I can take top off. I live in SC and moved from northeast Ohio. My brother in law has 4 or 5 jeeps for the woods and goes multiple times a week. I think it’s interesting/cool to see how ppl change their vehicles for their purpose Even if it’s not mine. I also put bigger rims on mine as well. Purist might call it a mall crawler but I don’t take offense. Theres only one person your gladiator has to make happy and that’s you. Do whatever you like.
