Finally got a chance to mount my first 37x12.5R17 BFG KO2 on my new rims. It didnt go well found out they had to be reverse mounted. Went to balance and its asking for almost 14oz of weights. Tried it on the road force and was so excessive. Might try spinning the tire 180 to see if it helps. If not any luck with balancing beads? Ill also try a second wheel tomorrow to see if it goes better.

I’ve always been told that the dot on the tire needs to be inline with the valve stem, something about balancing, not sure if it’s true or not? My 35 KO2 balanced just fine. Maybe it’s the tire if it’s just that one ?

Big bfgs balance like shit, they're well known for consistently being completely inconsistent. I'd spin the tire 180 and try again, but one of my 39s has 22 oz of weight dynamically balanced, another 21, then 9 and 6. It just seems to be luck of the draw with them for some reason. Balance beads can work ok, but for every one good review I read, there are probably 5 that say the downside of low speed imbalance and poor bead distribution after big bumps made them a bad option

I ran 35” KO2s that took some weight to get right. I jumped to 37” MTs and tried beads, and it was a disaster. They never calmed down and shook the truck at all speeds. Ended up redoing them with weights. A few of the tires took a pound or more, but they balanced out and ride smooth. Seems odd to add that much weight, but given the overall weight of the wheel and tire, we’re talking 1% or less in most cases.

Back at it today, I rotated the tire 180. It helped as there are no Dots on the BFGs. Still took about 14 oz total and was down to chasing 1/2 ozs so will see how it goes. Will try number two at lunch

Just looked at my 35 KO2’s only one of the 4 has a dot and it’s green?

I think I recall seeing the dots on mine when they were new.
My 35 KO2s are all over the place on weights.
Only one appears to have needed an excessive amount.

I had a hell of a time trying to balance K02 315's. One of the tires required a lot of weight. Will probably steer away from K02's next time for this reason.

Anything 33" & taller its common... I had a set of duratracs that sucked.., second set no issue.. It's just a bad tire or two, and happens all the time. The party who sourced/installed them will never voluntarily admit to this common issue.. cause they'd be loosing money if they re-ordered, installed etc.. If you bought them and brought them to the installer.. good luck! I'll never do that again because of this issue. I'd fight it.

This is the second thread dealing with BFGs the last couple of days…that’s troubling as they are my go to brand:/
