Time for an upgrade. What is the consensus for the best type of speaker to put in the sound bar?

6-1/2 or a 6x9? 2-way or 3-way?

I did the 6x9 kit and put the infinity reference speakers in there as well as the same 3.5 in the dash. Have the pods to do the front 6” ones but haven’t gotten around to it yet as you have to remove the whole dash to do those ones.

so far I’m real happy with all of them. Loads better than the stocks system. Just make sure you get a non blown set of the 3.5 inch ones. Went through like three packages of them from Amazon before finding two that were in perfect shape.

Oh and for the 6x9 kit in the bar, it’s much much easier to take the whole bar out to do the cutting on a workbench vs trying to dremel out the space upside down.

The following is considering you are starting with the stock non-Alpine system, and presuming you just want better sound w/o massive volume:

Before you do anything, try fading your existing stereo speakers to the far back to hear just how little the back speakers provide for the front driver and passenger. They are almost an afterthought on mine. The front speakers matter much more for the driver. The simplest thing is to pop in some replacements for the top dash speakers and see what you think. These new speakers will be able to handle a mild amp should you add one later, and you get better highs in the mean time. The knee speakers are often said to be pretty OK for what they are, so it may not be worth bothering with them unless they get blown out. For the sound bar, again the biggest bang for the buck is just to replace the smaller speakers for better highs, and leave the 4" ones alone. I replaced the 4" ones in the sound bar and couldn't tell an improvement, but the four 3.5" speakers, dash and overhead, all made for a nice improvement for almost no effort.

And get some pillow stuffing to shove behind each speaker and fill up some of the sound bar.

Decided to go with the Infinity 3032 in front and the JBL GTO939 6x9 in the bar. Am using the MB Quart 6x9 kit to install those.

Saving the Metra pod knee swap for later.

Will report back this weekend when installed.

Infinity's came today. Installed and tested.

Ho. Lee. Chit.

Hard to believe a couple of 3.5 2-way would make that big a difference, but they damn sure do. Really excited to get the 6x9's installed this weekend.
