September 14th was a glorious day in Moab Utah for the Red Rock 4-Wheelers Trail of the Month featuring 7 Mile Rim. 7 Mile Rim is one of the most popular trails in the area and proved it again with a gathering of 18 vehicles joining to head out on the trail.
The trail starts out on an old mining road pockmarked with stones and a few small ledges.
It then traverses onto a section that gets increasingly ledgey and is known as the “Stairway to Seven”.
Once on top of the mesa the slick continues to provide challenges for our group. An fun little off camber climb makes you keep your attention on the trail.
Our first stop of the day was a stunning overlook of Corral Canyon.
Which includes not just a stunning vista and peek into Arches National Park but its own arch, Corral Arch.
As we continue along the rim of the mesa we are reminded that this harsh but inviting place is very much alive and thriving. The monsoon rains of August has sparked life once again in the many potholes that dot the sandstone. A black bush seed has sprouted and we will watch the growth of this as we visit the rim again and again.
Further along the rim another spectacular view was afforded to all participants in spite of the hazy sky that accompanies wildfire season in the west.
Moving away from the rim we approached Uranium Arch. The trail down to the arch provided a fun if steep downhiller for all participants.
The group was able to exit their trusty off-road steeds and enjoy lunch in the shade under and around Uranium Arch.
Exiting Uranium Arch the group began making their way to the Monitor and Merrimac Buttes.
But before making it all the way to the buttes, we made another stop at another of the many overlooks that dot 7 Mile Rim Trail. Here the group takes in the 313 Overlook, right next to the Silver Crack obstacle.
The group then rumbled on to the Monitor and Merrimac Buttes for the traditional group photo that many a group takes along this trail to commemorate the event. We made sure to grab that photo to spur memories of a great day on trail.
The trip was not over. We had a few more obstacles to try out, the first being Burnt Toast, a tight squeeze between the toast and the talus edge.
My turn!
Then on to I Lean where our participants recorded 25 degree leans to the driver side!
We then made our way past Determination Towers and out the wash. Another great Trail of the Month was complete with 18 vehicles driving on to the trail and 18 driving off. Thanks to all those who participated and we look forward to seeing many of you next month Green River for October’s TotM!
