FYI my current picture is when I was in Vilseck Germany. I'm trying to fix my floorboards that rusted out in part from the salt on the roads there. 95-98 when not driving all over Europe.
When you get it buy a replacement coolant bottle to have ready to replace it when it starts cracking on top. A regular problem with them.

Thank you
That reservoir seems to be a pressurized one. Will have that on my spares list for sure. Thank you. Awesome that none of the replacements are expensive and very few things are hard to come by.

Sounds like you got it dialed in pretty much, you might add a crank position sensor too. I might have missed it being listed. Good ones are getting rare as hens teeth somewhat. I ended up with a "nice long walk" when my 90XJ's failed. Thee auto parts stores then dealership that was 20 some years ago. 😳 Then just finished the walk to house drove my 91 Comanche back to install it. Shorter walk home. Lesson I learned and kept one in the jeep.

You are right I keep callin the crank the cam sensor... not that the xj even has one 🤣😅 corrected it
I was banking on standard motors and wells acdelco etc parts, a few crown (i know they are scheite, but better than nothing i thought) but I am starting to motivate my contacts to start pulling parts for me 😇🫡

The blue one isn't mine, but pretty cool. Manual diesel 4x4
But I got my motorstand and motorlift today

Some stuff for the Jeep, some stuff from the donor jeep... uff

A lot of stuff...
What has me puzzled, gaskets make sense but the connecting rod bearings... I mean... don't you need to measure and get suitable ones... I mean and surely if you buy those you have a plan and you buy more parts to rebuild the engine ...
OH, I wonder how I will proceed

On the other hand, we can get into a 1987 XJ, 3-door,4.0 4x4 limited that has had a refurb in 2017 and has rust and so on taken care of. It has seen 220 000 miles, has KME lpg system, so runs for the same cost as the diesel here
It has the historic H Plate, so cheap to insure, cheap to run and can be driven everywhere.
Interior conditions are similar.
It comes with another 4.0 run 100 000 miles,
87 = RENIX system. Hmmmmm
They had many idle issues and problems back then.
When I put the 4.0 in my SX4, I looked for an OBDI 4.0 and found a 94 ZJ a guy was selling the engine out of.

Tip - you can find 4.0 rod and crank bearings in a lot of different sizes if you include the AC 258 in your search. The downside - the bearing tang is on the wrong side for the 4.0. For some reason, the bearings are identical other than that tab or tang on the bearing
I filed new notches in my rods and caps and used AMC 258 bearings in it.

For the OBDI engines the make a crank sensor relocation kit that puts it at that front so you don't have to mess around with replacing a sensor buried in the bell housing at the front.
I didn't do that, too danged picky.

Very true. It runs rich and idles meh, and additionally, the lpg system is not helpful... I will look into this... probably refresh the replacement engine, swap it in and delete the lpg and be happy, but at least I find the renix system fairly good to understand, we will see... I must say, it is refreshing to have a vehicle that is fairly straightforward... still enough crazy to figure out though
