I’m thinking of installing this Anker Qi charging pad inside the top section of the console. I have the wireless Caplay adapter already plugged into the USB inside the lower section but it has a pass thru USB port which I will use for the charging pad. If it works I will cut the rubber mat and make it more permanent.

Anker Wireless Charger, PowerWave Pad Qi-Certified 10W Max for iPhone SE 2020, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, AirPods, Galaxy S20 S10, Note 10 9 (No AC Adapter, Not Compatible with MagSafe Magnetic Charging) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07THHQMHM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_FYHXWXV57ME760FNK4J9

Dumb question I guess but what is this CarPlay wireless adapter you speak of?

You could add one of those QI charging pockets between the seat and center console. And save some cutting. Or add a Rokk scanstrut type mount to hold it up.

Works flawlessly

ETA: If I had one complaint it is this… I have a lot of kids who love to jump in the truck and take it whenever they can and all of them have figured out how to connect to the wireless CarPlay. So when I get in it, it needs to think for a minute and cycle through 4-5 saved phones before it will connect to mine. It only takes an extra 10 to 15 seconds.

Personally I would spend a few more and go magsafe to futureproof yourself. I have also seen that magsafe is still decent at locking onto phones that don't even have that technology built in. I would worry about my phone sliding off of a standard charging pad during transit.

That's a good point about it sliding off the charging pad. Carplay does indicate on the screen when a device is charging. That would be the only way to know. Magsafe will not work for me on my older iPhone 11Pro.

ETA: I also found this link about very slow charging with Magsafe on anything older than iPhone 12..

I have seen a few videos where people even got it to lock in reasonably well to android phones. I think its a case by case basis. Like you won't hang your phone by it, but it might be enough to keep your phone from shifting on a turn

I've looked into these and always saw reviews that it was a 50/50 shot you had to "re-sync" the device. Seems like this one is better.

Reading over the set up steps it looks like it does BT then to it's own WiFi connection. For set up it mentions disconnecting your own Wifi. Do you have to do that every time once set up though? Or is it smart enough to swap your phones wifi off the house after the set up?

I bought one of these from Amazon to have in my kitchen... it’s very finicky. Sometimes it doesn’t charge at all... and seems less efficient with certain cases. I don’t even use it anymore because my lightening connector charger so much faster.

No everything happens automagically.
