Any Advice for a first time New Jeep buyer?

Since you've had the Liberty - which was also powered by a VM diesel - you understand the lifestyle. A bit of caution, however, about the JL/JT diesel; recurring preventative maintenance is more expensive, with recurring also being a bit higher due to the addition of DEF as a consumable. The 3.6 Pentastar, the base gasoline engine, is of excellent, proven quality that will deliver many trouble-free hours of use.

It is true that the 3.0 VM diesel, as installed in the JL/JT, struggles with excessive engine and underhood temps when worked moderately hard, however there are ways to mitigate that, as discussed on this and the JL forum.

I try to be as critical and objective as possible with these opinions, as I own two EcoDiesels (including my avatar pic, which is a special-order unit), and am partial to the engine for my own reasons. However, a JLUR 3.6 gasser is also in the stable, albeit supercharged. All are very good engines in these platforms.
