Any of your guys here own a Tesla or EV car? Been thinking about trading my jeep in for one. Wondering if it’s a bad idea.

I feel this is baiting  ...but I will say that we have a Gladiator and a Wrangler 4xe and although we love the 4xe for around the town driving, I can't imagine not having our Gladiator. A JT and a Tesla do not seem to be interchangeable for everyday needs and driving habits. Totally different missions.

I rented a Tesla for a week. I found it very annoying to have to to sit for 40 minutes to go from 10% power to 95%. An hour's drive at 70 mph drained it from 75% battery down to just 20%. Really felt like I was handcuffed. To top it off, Tesla chargers were a little hard to find. All around the car was fun to drive and could put you back in your seat, but the fun didn't last long

The better half has a wrangler so I could still use that. I was just looking at the cost of maintenance being way cheaper on the Tesla. I drive 30k miles a year. I will most likely just upgrade to a new gladiator

Wow I didn’t realize the battery was that bad.

I was shocked too. Maybe it was because it was a rental and everybody abused it or if it's some sort of short range version for rentals or what, it was very frustrating. The lack of Tesla compatible chargers was also not fun.

Understood. If you're driving 30K miles a year, for me personally, I don't think a Gladiator is the best option. That's a significant number of miles on a vehicle with suboptimal aerodynamics, off-road mechanics, and a fuel-hungry V6 engine.

I also think with a shelf-life of an EV battery, at that mileage you're probably better off going with a fuel-efficient 4-cylinder or hybrid. Not a dorky Prius, but like a Honda CR-V or if you want more luxury something like a Lexus ES Hybrid or Lexus RX Hybrid. Food for thought.

I bought a New Tesla X 2020, six years and it just turned 40k miles. I had the battery tested at the service center about 6 months ago, it was at 93%. First off, got to say it’s the most comfortable ride I’ve ever owned, six seater, hands down the fastest sled I’ve ever been in. Now understand I’ll always own my JT and the X. Two completely different vehicles with two completely different purposes. “One’s a little bit country the others a lot of rock and roll”. The only thing I’ve spent on the X is a new set of tires in 2025, zero issues. The JT, well…the fourth main and aux battery(thanks Jeep), new paint job (corrosion issues) thanks again Jeep. 35” MT and KMC rims. Metal bumpers front and rear. New stereo head unit.
