I often smell antifreeze when I park my jeep in the garage. If I smell around the grill area it seems strong. I have no leaks and my antifreeze level has not dropped. It may be normal but thought I would ask. Thanks
I’m keen to the smell of antifreeze on cars as I’m walking by a parking lot or it’s one of my own vehicles. I don’t have it on mine. I would take it in for a cooling system test.
If you can smell antifreeze, there's a leak somewhere. It only takes a very small one to be able to smell it. I'd get it checked out before it gets bigger.
JK's on their forum reported something similar; very small pinhole in radiator .. burns off before drip out.. should be on passenger side behind the shroud .. you will see the baked coolant on the fins.
On my 3.6 WK2 I went through 3 water pumps in 48k miles. A week after the third one went in I took it to the dealership and bought a diesel Gladiator. I could smell it in the engine bay but couldn't track it down. Finally I was able to see crystalized antifreeze caked on the bottom of the water pump. I couldn't see anything wet, but once I knew where it was coming from it was pretty easy to find. Just a very small leak, I don't think I ever topped off my coolant unless the dealership did it during oil changes and didn't tell me.
