I'm doing a Sport S Max Tow build soon but planning to immediately dump the stock tires and go to the same size as stock Rubicon (LT285/70R17). As much as I want to put 35s on I will be towing a 4200 lb travel trailer so need to keep tire size reasonable with that in mind and impact to gearing.

Having watched the forum for a long time while I'm counting down I see Nitto and BFG moving a lot of tires on to new Gladiators and that's fine and good but I'm looking at a tire I've never tried before that looks cool but also functional, a "hybrid" type tire between an AT and a MT. Wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Dick Cepek Trail Country EXP?? They are available in this size, look cool, functional, and fairly aggressive, reasonably priced, and weight also in line. Any insight appreciated from the brain trust!

FYI...they are available nationwide at 4 Wheel Parts... https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/dick-...s/prod2590001?Most+Popular+Sizes_PQ=285x70R17

Thanks!

I don't have any experience with the Dick Cepek, however, I got the Falken A/T's on my Rubicon and they are great! I'll probably go with the same tire in a 37 x 12.5 when I upgrade. You can get a set of take-offs for around $1000 - $1300 for 5! Just looked at the specs on the DC, it's a load range "E" which equals an extremely stiff sidewall = rough ride, just my $.02

Yes...will consider the takeoff route if the opportunity presents itself but 4 new ones at that price would bring me in under the 1K probably!

As far as E rated...as noted...will be towing so logic is that the stiffer sidewall will be better for us when under load to keep things in control.

No JT experience with these tires but I put them on my CJ7 this past year and was impressed. They were smooth and quiet and hard to beat for the price.

Yes, the price is nice compared to other ATs. Also found out they apparently are actually manufactured by Cooper just private labeled to Cepek so that's good...was seriously considering Discoverer AT3s but already have 2 sets on our JGC and TJ...happy with them but thought I would try something new and different.

No experience with the tire you are looking at but they're basically a clone of the cooper st maxx and the mickey thompson atz p3. I have had fantastic experience with the cooper st maxx as being a perfect hybrid all terrain/mud terrain. I have also ran the dick cepek mud countries on an rig several years ago and felt that they were a fantastic road tire for their aggressive tread.

I have no experience with those Dick Cepek tires.... To help with your towing, you should try to get the lightest tires possible in the size/style you are looking at... By the specs on the link you reference, those tires do seem to be on the lighter side.

Just an update...I did go with the Trail Country EXP in LT 285 70/17...really happy with them so far with first 1200+ miles. Seem very quiet to look as aggressive as they do. The LT obviously a bit stiffer but when I am pulling our camper expect it will handle it well. Here''s a pic for those considering this tire.

Those tires actually make the stock Sport S wheel look good. :like:

Obviously this is an older post….but I just picked up a set of 35 12.50/17 EXP's for my JT Max-Tow......just finished putting in Rubicon takeoff springs and a 3/4" spacer up front, and the FOX shocks at all four corners shocks....I like the stance much better now.
As far as the EXP's are concerned, I got them at a stupid low price of $1073 (on line from Walmart of all places !) for all 5 including tax or about $200 per tire. They may be a bit "aggressive" for my use which will be around town and weekly jaunts on the beach in Delaware, but I couldn't turn them down for that price !

Now, If I could just settle on a set of rims...…...
