I’ve recently been looking for a set of larger tires for the first time in 5 years and in my research I once again am seeing the same sentiment shared around: BFG tires are much smaller than other tire brands in the same size. I wanted to know if this was true? And I personally believe BFG’s (specifically the ko2) really isn’t much smaller in a noticeable metric to other tires. Here are some picutres, every tire measured was on a 17 inch rim on a Jeep and at 30 psi, measured to the same point. See for yourself!
all tires shown are 35x12.5r17 with 0-100 miles on them
here is the ko2
here is the nitto trail grappler.

To my eyes I’m not seeing a huge difference in size. The nitto definitely is bigger by just a hair, but they are all extremely similar, which is not the opinion I hear others share about the bfgs. I want to see what you guys think. If I had infinite money I’d love to see a brand new 35’ ko2 mounted on the same wheel next to any other brand and I guarantee the difference would be less than an inch.
I guess I got interested in this topic because I’ve seen people claim BfGs are 2 inches smaller than most other tire brands, but I could not find any evidence of that other than hearsay. I should also note, I am aware all tire sizes usually are 1-2 inches smaller than listed on the sidewall due to various factories, that’s not my point. My point is I believe the KO2s are really not much smaller than any other brand, not deserving of the “runs much smaller than other tires” reputation it’s gained.
i realize I’m suggesting something that goes against the grain, but I’m not making this post to spark confrontation. I’m just genuinely interested in this topic.
