Planning out my lift and tires. My rig will be for overlanding trips and not rock crawling but could see some rough trails. I have read some things about the aluminum steering knuckles and want to know do I really need to replace them? I will be doing the mopar 2 inch lift and running 255/85R17 micky thompson tires on the stock wheels.

I have a 2018 early production JLUR and I have run a Mopar lift since probably 700 miles or so. I have 102,000 on it now with 2 trips to Moab and countless other off-road excursions. I“ve run 35¨ tires also for a few more miles than the lift. There has been no issue with those knuckles. I don“t do any pre-running, like the Mojave is set up to do. That type of wheeling is exactly why they put the stronger steel knuckles on there. I do lots of rock crawling and overlanding-style trail running, too.

The Mojave was meant to be Jeep“s Raptor. It is made so that you can hit whoops and get a little bit of air and come down really hard on that front end. That“s stuff I wouldn“t even do if I had a Mojave, which is built for it.

But I have not babied mine, either.

One more thing...last time I was in Moab...maybe 2 years ago, a Jeep rental company owner told me the JL“s were holding up far better than the JK“s ever did. He never mentioned an issue with those knuckles. You can imagine what people put a rental through. And those rentals were all on heavy 37¨ tires.

So I would not worry about it. Then again, I do drive through the pot holes of Indianapolis, so maybe I should. LOL!

I agree with everything you said. Since I do try to do Mojave things with my ā€œused to be a rubiconā€, I replaced my knuckles with the same ones a Mojave gets. But mine sees harder hits.
