I should have mentioned, that the dealer in question is out of state. My Sec of State here said "they would give no credit for taxes paid to a non tax reciprocity state which this dealer is in. It would be my responsibility to try and get my money back, and that said dealer knows better." As an aside, the state in question has a 4.75% sales tax, and my state has a 6% sales tax. They are asking for 7.5%.

They are asking me to give them 7.5% in tax that should not be paid to them, nor should they be asking. I would say this is more than just the tip, perhaps even half the shaft.

Very good info. My Gladiator is very clean and the Snazzberry Red really stands out, maybe they will make deal.

Yeah, that changes things a bit. Why even entertain the offer in the first place?

So is that dealership bound to collect their state sales tax regardless if the buyer and vehicle is registered out of state? I have never really heard that to be a thing but I am not versed on all states vehicle sales tax requirements.

I have bought plenty of vehicles from different out of state dealers and they either collected for the state I was from and registering with and used a third party title company, or they just sent me with a packet that had the MSO and I paid and registered myself. Never paid a out of state sales tax and then again with my home state.

I'm not entertaining the offer, I posted it as an example because I felt it was relevant to the thread. I do like the vehicle spec though, so when I get around to it I'll answer one of the many texts from these guys and tell them to do better. Fortunately I don't care if I buy this one or not.

I'm not versed on interstate taxes either, but when I saw that the amount they were asking for wasn't the correct amount for either state, I thought it odd and called the Sec of State where I'm at.

The selling state is a Non-reciprocal (no credit given) state. And because of this, I will have to pay the full MI tax regardless if I give this clown money for his girlfriend's boob job or not. I was told they are not bound to collect their state's sales tax, but how that works out between them and their government I'm not sure.

They did tell me they know exactly who the dealer is, I guess it's a big franchise. I'm sure other people have come in to register and started complaining when they found out they got the double-tap.

I just traded for a 24 JTR (not X), from an AZ dealership, and they will charge AZ tax unless it is shipped to me in NM. So, it's coming by truck from PHX to ABQ this week, and they load my current JTR on a truck and take it back to AZ. We pay tax (4%) on the difference between the trade amount and the cost of the new vehicle in NM.

I have a '21 JT, Sport S. Thinking of trading it in on a '23 Mojave JT since I have read so much about how the Mojave is supposed to be the smoothest riding JT. Has anyone had both a Sport S and a Mojave and can confirm for me is a Mojave that much a smoother ride to make it worth the switch?

First Jeep, picked up a '23 Gladiator Overland, Sting-gray in SoCal this weekend. MSRP was 56k, internet price was 39.5k after all discounts/incentives but then had a bunch of 'dealer installed accessories' which they tried to drive the price up -- ended up settling for 50% off those acc. on top of the internet price for 41k + ttl. Love the interior and look -- drives extremely smoothly and super quiet (was expecting louder from my brothers Mojave JL) - super happy thus far.

Rock bottom? No. Correction back to pre Covid levels? Yes

For 3+ years. The manufacturers MSRP and Dealer sticker has not even been close! A few $1000 either way was the norm for anything but high optioned trims sitting on the lot.

Even still, with the 15% off MSRP from Jeep, Many dealers are still price gouging!

With interest rates being high, prices will continue fall back into the 30-45k range for Jeeps.

Other manufacturers will probably be lowering prices soon also.

I bought my new '23 Mojave 8-speed January this year at MacHaik in Houston for $42,358. That ended up being a hair over 26% off sticker MSRP. My most local Jeep dealer couldn't get me close to that price for a '23 Willy's or Sport. I did not trade-in a vehicle, and they brought that up during "negotiations". I stood firm on the advertised price, and they eventually settled on it. Wife and I were pleased as it wasn't a stressful purchase. Made us feel they just wanted to unload these Jeeps. I kept my Ram for towing. Then I added the class 4 hitch to the Mojave for shorter trips.

I had a Willys sport JL on 35s (extreme recon not my build) and Mojave drives like a sports car compared to that. I have driven a sport s diesel recently but cannot really comment as that was a test drive in back roads. Go for a test drive and decide! this is a good time to get good deal on a new one but trade in values are not great. try getting a CarMax assessment and ask 2-3K above that.. mostly will have to settle for CarMax trade in as dealers are not that desperate- at least around here (Atlanta)

I know, two months ago the KBB trade in value on my JT was $41K something, around there, and now it is $10K less. Boy, to not have a Jeep to trade in for a Jeep would be sweet. Here in the St. Louis area they have the Mojave's marked down $13K-$16K off sticker and more in some cases.

The first person that posted about 20% showing up had a zip code in the pictures that came up as Eastern Tennessee and I think the fine print was for a base Sport model.
