I should have mentioned, that the dealer in question is out of state. My Sec of State here said "they would give no credit for taxes paid to a non tax reciprocity state which this dealer is in. It would be my responsibility to try and get my money back, and that said dealer knows better." As an aside, the state in question has a 4.75% sales tax, and my state has a 6% sales tax. They are asking for 7.5%.
They are asking me to give them 7.5% in tax that should not be paid to them, nor should they be asking. I would say this is more than just the tip, perhaps even half the shaft.
