I have a Rebel Off Road Xplor half rack. I want to get one of those smaller all-weather cases at harbor freight (Apache i think is the name) and cut out a little space for 2 glasses and a bottle of bourbon and mount it to the rack.

I know everyone is about ’The Mounting Company’ these days and their products look good for sure. But I’m not trying to pay $250 or whatever just for a mount. Does anyone have any solutions? Maybe just get nuts and bolts and grommet to seal the holes i might drill?

I have to say this is a great post and your attitude is refreshing, just want to have a couple glasses and some bourbon handy in a case! Four bolts and locknuts and some silicone should be good, is it a one bottle or two bottle case?….Jack

One bottle. I know it’s not the most practical use given the varying sizes. Of bottles but I have a go-to brand, ‘Coopers Daughter‘ (made in ny) that has an awesome black walnut bourbon. Silicon is a good idea, sounds simple enough.

This will actually be a trial run because my dad is giving me a larger Apache box which will fit my yet-to-be-purchased hottap shower system and I wanted to mount that in a box as well.

I'm a fan of the Apache boxes from Harbor Freight and when/if you complete you attachment, I would love to see some step by step photos or tips on that. My biggest fear is always theft (I live in the SF Bay Area) and auto theft/burglary is high.

Just ran to Home Depot And picked these up. Was like $5.50 for a pack of four.

my thinking is I’ll drill slightly wider holes in the plates and use these screws

although now that I’m at this point, I realized I don’t have detach mechanism. Not a major deal as the box ain’t heavy. As far as locking, it has holes and I use just a regular lock on it. Not keeping gold in there but then again, then yeti cups are expensive

Quick update. End result aint too bad. I think I need to go get some bigger washers tomorrow and flip it upside down because it sits a bit too low. Flipping should fix it. I would recommend the mount plate be a little closer to the middle than where i placed mine.

Thanks for this post! Perfect timing as I am laying out some bottles to cut the foam for my bar going on a Rebel rack! I think I may have gone a bit overboard on the size though.... I was just trying to decide how best to mount it.

I'd recommend picking up a half dozen or so thick fender washers 1.5 in to spread out load a little.
Oh, I've got a few of the H.F. Apache cases, none mounted but free floating a few for first aid gear. Orange so easy to spot. A yellow one for cooking stuff.

I've got nothing against Pelican cases or other brands. Heck I've probably got $1500 spent on Pelican cases same in Hardig cases alone in past.
The bottle of bourbon a long time friend gave me deserves a case like that.

Alright boys, last update. Adjusted height which meant drilling some new holes. Used some epoxy clay to fill the old ones.

upgraded to some larger washer and got some vinyl nuts for good measure.

took the drink template out and threw in recovery straps for now. Another box seems logical since I have the space.

Thats awesome! I'm still searching and planning for how i want to set up my bed and rack, but this just went to the top of the list once its on. Do you think it would it work if the case is turned so the door opened down, and a wire be affixed inside to support the door to have as a level surface for pouring etc?

absolutely. I only did verticals to conserve space but a lot of people I see post similar set ups on IG do horizontal. You may want an extra hole drilled for extra nut but should be fine.
