Anybody using a Barricade winch? I am looking at either the 12,000 or the HD 12,500. I can’t find any of the answers on YouTube I’m looking for.

Saw a couple of videos where the HF grenaded under pressure. I have no videos of barricade being used so I have to rely on personal testimony. Do you have a personal opinion on the Apex? I will gladly consider it

Jeep Gladiator Barricade HD 12,500 winch 20250416_184403

This is what is pulled out of the woods last night. I used the 12k Badlands on the trailer to get it turned 90 degrees using snatch blocks. It took 30 minutes or so, but the batteries I had with me died.

Then we used the 12k Apex on my Silverado to do the long pull. Holding the brake on the Duramax wasn't enough so we teethered it to the 2500 Ford in the picture. The Apex 12k did a wonderful job. The Badlands wasn't to bad either. The Gladiator could have done the Job with the 12k Warn Zeon, but wouldn't be capable of towing the Caddy, so I opted for the Duramax. My sons F250 powerstroke struggled just a bit going up hills.

Well, that's my view on Harbor Freight crap. It works great.

So I’ve been unavailable for a bit. I ended up with the badlands apex 12000lb winch. Why? Because it’s all in how you use it and knowing the limitations plus how to rig it. Along with there’s a harbor freight everywhere so if I burn it up, I can just take it to a local store and change it out and back up same day. We will see how it works. Hopefully I will never have to use the warranty, but I got it.

I just order a Barricade,12,000 winch based on reviews and it was on sale at Extreme Terrain for $341.
Like most I'm hoping to not use it that much. I'm going tomorrow to get the Fairlead mount at HF it's only $19.99.

Yes, got that coming from ET as well and has a stiffener bracket that attaches to the backside to keep it from bowing and flexing under stress.
There are so many different winch plates how to decide which one for the Gladiator? did you get the LOD, Baricade, or Rugged Ridge Spartacus? seems like you could spend more on the Plate then the Winch! funny for the bumper that is "Winch Ready".

Tree farmer now. Retired first responder.
It is Warn or no winch. I love my Warns.

But I am just kidding a bit. I have Warn winches on all of my current vehicles (Jeeps, Truck, SXS and ATVs) and am very happy with them. In the past, I have had Superwinch and Warns..

But it isn't deep science. HF versions and even a Smitty is far better than NO WINCH. Anytime. Everyday.

You can put a BMW emblem on a VW and fool some.

I ran the badlands 12k on my sport s and had quite a few pulls on it including pulling a car out of somebodies yard for a buddy. It was sitting on 4 flats and had to pull it out of the hole it was in and then move and rehooked to spin it 90 degrees to get it out of the gate. So it is definitely a good buy. I will be going with the apex on the Mojave and my wife’s XR. Like it was said above just know the limitations and the cool down times and shouldn’t have any issues and if you do, go swap it out at the nearest HF

Update- so I went with the apex for 2 reasons
1) it was cheaper than the barricade
2) no matter where I go, I’m never too far away from a HF
i already have it installed on the jeep. It looks good, it fit perfect, and I didn’t have to drill any holes anywhere or cut into any wires. I put the relay on aux 4 and it works great. Time will tell if this was a good investment or not.
