Thank God, I hate that thing. I need to figure out how hard it is to delete it as my AUX battery is dying.

I leave the air on 3 or 4 so it doesn't engage that makes it less horrible but yet something else to fix.

Pull the trigger on a Tazer and call it a day. Does a heck of a lot more than eliminate the start/stop and totally worth it.

You do know there's a button on the dash to turn it off? Doesn't cost anything to push it after hitting the Start button.

ESS is part of the system and always active. There is no way to disable or delete it. There are multiple options to keep the engine from turning off when ESS calls for it, but that's it.

I'm hoping the ESS system goes away, and then I will buy a new Gladiator.

It's a system without any purpose for me.

Yep I know it's easier to not hit the button all the time and just leave the air on 3 or 4 that keeps the system off, but what's the point of it then?

The bigger issue than "your just lazy hit the button" thing is when that battery goes out it's $200 for cheap crap or $300-$400 for a good one and it usually takes the main battery out as well so your looking at a grand for a system that was only installed because of a EPA tax credit for the manufacturer. 90% of car buyers did not ask for start/stop.

It's just more long term wear and tear we have to deal with while the big manufacturers gets the bonus.

Well said Sir.

How many years did we do just fine with one battery and no purposeless, unneeded buttons.

I won't recommend it, but mine never operate since I rarely wear my seatbelt around town.

The manufacturers don't get a bonus. The ESS system is a compromise to cut back the fines and allow the Gladiator to be built. The components are designed to handle the additional wear.

Batteries go out on any vehicle, they have a finite life span. Quality varies, the OEM batteries are not that great, but the Aux Battery usually lasts longer than the Main.

On my first Gladiator, I got about 39 months out of the Main Battery. I replaced it with a ACDELCO 94R that I got off Amazon for $160. The Aux battery lasted another six months. It failed in a state that didn't drain the Main Battery. I drove for another six months before replacing it with one from Auto Barn for $109.

My current Gladiator was built in November of 2023, and purchased in February of 2024. It has the 8.4 Nav and remote functions through the phone app, so the higher parasitic draw. It is not driven daily, so the batteries are not kept charged. It will sometimes sit for five days without being started. So far, the OEM batteries are holding up well. I should have a battery maintainer connected, but haven't got around to it yet. When the Main Battery dies, I'll get another 94R from Amazon or Walmart, and see how long the Aux Battery lasts.
