This is absolutely THE ONLY reason I won't buy a full soft top with the current offerings. It looks hideous to me that there wasn't a fully-pivoted/retractable softie that would lay all the way to the bed top.

It's funny...when I had my JK...I thought the sunrider was ridiculous looking and a full soft top was the only way to go...well with the JT it's the complete opposite. I'd never invest into that ugly soft top design and am considering a sunrider.
Right there with you, I just couldn't go with the look of the open soft top, but we've had a Sunrider on our JT for a year and LOVE it. One hand operation to open and close and I can close it in seconds if it starts to rain. When you're in the front with the top open, you have the sun above you and feel the breeze...close enough for me.

I too am patiently waiting for Bestop or another manufacturer to come up with a soft top offering that folds down to the bed, behind the headrests. Folding into the bed would be a no for me, as then I could not use the tonneau. But something that accordions like the OEM soft top, but drops down to rest on top of the tonneau would be perfect.

When an OEM designs a new vehicle part, they pay a manufacturer a hefty NRE charge to make that part. A component of that contract to build tops would also be a non-compete clause for a defined period of time. Jeep wants to be the only game in town to recoup their design costs.

That response does not bring confidence of anything anytime soon. The enclosures for the lowers of the tube doors have been coming soon for a long time now.... Really glad at this point I didn't buy them since I would be pretty angry by this point.

The soft top works great for me. I cant see it when its open and it only takes 10 seconds to close it. If it bugs people you can through it in the bed by removing four bots (the ratchet comes in the tool kit). I ordered the dual top and dont know if I will ever put the hard top on. Not a fan of the freedom panels removed.

I ordered my jeep with the hard top and I am beginning to wish I went with the soft top...
