I have a evo 1/4 pounder bumper and want to put some d ring mounts on it. I am wondering what the difference is between the evo ones for almost $200 and the other various ones for half or less? I have run no name ones on custom stuff before and never had an issue which is making it hard for me to justify the evo price.

With shackles you're looking at the WLL or Working Load Limit. On a 3/4" alloy shackle the WLL is generally around 7 tons. For a carbon steel it is 4.75 tons. I base this off of Crosby Shackle load charts. I do rigging in my work.
So, the name really means nothing. Look for the WLL for the shackle, the higher the number the more load it is rated for.

A Crosby 209 (carbon steel screw 3/4") runs under $40.
A Crosby 209A (alloy screw 3/4") runs under $45.

Crosby is the standard for rigging in construction. So use these numbers to decide on your purchase.

Sorry, I misunderstood. You're talking the D-ring bolt on mounts themselves.

They all bolt into the frame through the bumper, so you're only concerned with base material. Generally it falls back to thickness of the steel used. The thicker the base plate the better. The D-ring section is limited to the width between the eyes of the shackle. Most are set for 3/4" shackles, some are set for 7/8" shackles.

A 3/4" shackle is 1.25" between eyes, a 7/8" shackle is 1.44" between eyes.

The fillet weld bonding the two plates together should be a minimum of 5/16" tall through the weld.

With that all said. It gets down to quality of base material and skill of the person welding them together. Brand name doesn't come into play.

You're welcome. Being a certified welder and an active CWI has me knowing things that most don't. Plus it fills my head with mostly worthless information. ?

I wouldn’t say “worthless “. Maybe not everyday knowledge, but very useful and/or critical when needed. I ll be thinking about it everytime I buy or use steel to hold a load.
