I was going down the interstate when a truck in front of me kicked up a piece of steel from the road. It came back and hit my passenger-side exterior mirror housing breaking a huge chunk out of it. I was very lucky it did not go through the windshield and it did not even touch any sheet metal. The truck has less than 3K on it. Bummer.

The dealer wants nearly $400 to replace the mirror (half for mirror cost and half for labor). It appears that the mirror is held by three screws. It is heated and powered. Does the door panel need to come off for this replacement in order to access the wiring? If it does, I may just leave it to the dealer to avoid any possible cosmetic damage that might happen that I would then “own”. If not, I will probably just replace it myself. Anyone had to do this yet? The You-Tube video I saw on this topic was for a Wrangler (not sure the year) and it appeared the panel had to come off.

I'll prob. try to do this myself. I think it would be easier to replace it than give up the car for a day/several hours at the dealership. Plus I would rather keep such a small item off the insurance. I'll take a pic of the damage. Glad it was not another foot to the left!

I purchased a new mirror from the dealership and installed it in less than a half hour. Still amazed it didn’t touch the rest of the truck
