I absolutely agree with you @ShadowsPapa . Each situation is different. The first time I used my Apex was actually in falling a tree. There was no way controlling the winch from the cab would have been a good idea. The Jeep was 230' away from the tree (100' winch line, 100' synthetic rope extension and a 30' strap) and it was strapped to a tree to keep the Jeep from moving. Last trip I needed the winch to assist me climbing out of a canyon, it was close to a 60 degree wall with 100' of line out. I had a spotter and that was a place where running the winch in the cab was really required. Either switches, the wired winch remote or in my case, the wireless controller, was really the best option.
You really need multiple ways to control the winch, no one way works in all situations.
