I absolutely agree with you @ShadowsPapa . Each situation is different. The first time I used my Apex was actually in falling a tree. There was no way controlling the winch from the cab would have been a good idea. The Jeep was 230' away from the tree (100' winch line, 100' synthetic rope extension and a 30' strap) and it was strapped to a tree to keep the Jeep from moving. Last trip I needed the winch to assist me climbing out of a canyon, it was close to a 60 degree wall with 100' of line out. I had a spotter and that was a place where running the winch in the cab was really required. Either switches, the wired winch remote or in my case, the wireless controller, was really the best option.

You really need multiple ways to control the winch, no one way works in all situations.

My winch is set up as you describe with the AUX Switch set to momentary on/off connected to the contactor. I use one switch for in and one switch for out. However, I also wired in the plug for my wired controller under the hood next to the contactor, which is also under the hood. This gives me the option of operating the winch from the cab or from outside, both of which I find useful.

Obviously, my solution doesn’t eliminate the wired controller, which is your goal, but the Aux switches do work to activate the contactor to spool in or out.
