First off, how to we put this thread alway at the top? https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/official-2020-ecodiesel-oil-recommendations.29701/

I had a tough time finding the proper spec oil yesterday.

Changed my oil for the first time this weekend. My Jeep Included oil changes ran out. A few notes:
1. Dam the Mopar filter was expensive. Almost $100 at O’Rileys
2. After 2 trips I final settled on Castrol Edge Euro. It was the only oil available with the MS-12991. I originally bought a Mobile1 euro spec oil but realized it didn’t meet spec.
3. other than the two trip hiccup, pretty straightforward. I would highly recommend it to the average do-it-yourselfer.
4. the old oil was about 1.5quarts low, dark and the consistency of water. Is that normal?
5. I didn’t spill a drop of oil on the engine bay and Frame rail when removing the filter. COME ON JEEP! The service crew always seemed to get oil EVERYWHERE. Strategically place 2 rags. Easy.
5. Took a 6 hour trip to Joshua Tree and back. Smooth as butter and gas mileage seemed a little better at 24.4MPG.

Thats all. Hope this helps others.

Autozone STP filters are $28
Walmart sells Quaker state euro $22-$25 a 5qt container.
^ meet Ms-12991 spec and filter works fine.
I personally choose to change the oil every 5K.

Do not judge oil by feel or looks- send in an oil sample for analysis to get a reareading.

For cleanliness/ease of change…. Bunch of folks use fumoto valves.
I use this: https://a.co/d/cEqkBAJ
Made in America, veteran owned company- have on all my vehicles works great.

oil being low- we have 3 eco diesels in the family. All of them between 4-12k miles used almost 2qts during this window for break-in…. Bunch of folks say “no”- my opinion a bunch of folks just don’t check their oil level often on new vehicles because they are “new”.
I check the oil level every other week or so- along with a look over for leaks….

Edit: for context 2/3 of the jeeps in our family have experienced oil leaks. Nothing significant enough to show up on the dip stick or even make marks on the driveway…. Both have seeped from the cam position sensor on the passenger side, one has leaked in addition to the cam position at the timing chain cover gasket, And the valve cover gasket (in the valley…..).

^ I add the above note to strongly encourage climbing under every other month or so and shining up with a flashlight…..
