Code P 1404.
"EGR closed position performance"
said the code reader and the MIL light came on, also the start stop isn't working. Apparently when the check engine light comes on the stop start stops working so I'm not worried about that. I am about the EGR though. '21 Rubicon, about 50k miles

How to fix the EGR valve - sensor ? Expensive ?

I mentioned on the other thread about a warranty repair. I looked at another post on emission warranty and it looks like 8y/80k. Don't hold me to it, that info came from another member.

That being said, I have cleaned a few egr valves and components. I would replace the gasket if it has one. I have not cleaned one on our Jeeps. Warranty repair would get you a new one that should last another 60k for you.

In the USA the EGR system is only covered under the 3yr/36k mile bumper to bumper warranty according to the booklet. Since the OP isn't in the USA however, the coverage may be different.

I was talking to a friend about this a minute ago. He said some Chryslers need to have a new or cleaned valve reset. He does not believe disconnecting the battery is enough. He said take it to the dealer if under warranty. They are pricey so don't damage it trying to clean it.

Some diesels have much longer warranties in the USA. Some autos have extended emission warranties due to crap design or crap parts. I hope the OP is covered.

I have learned that most of the sensors are incorporated into the EGR valve itself, making cleaning more of a challenge game.

I just read this too. Egr is 2y/20k but should get covered under bumper to bumper. 2y/20k is Federal. USA warranty sucks.

It's the EGR valve. Will be covered under warranty ( even though I'm 3 k miles over the bumper to bumper warranty. A thousand dollar job.

Wonder if it's covered due to emissions warranty rules?

Already discussed earlier, the EGR system doesn't fall under the 8/80k emissions warranty nor the standard powertrain warranty per the booklet. Moot point anyway since it sounds like the dealer is covering it under goodwill.

It used to be as it was an integral part of emissions controls. You could get the EGR repaired for 50,000 miles in the past, regardless of other warranties.
Things have changed in the past decade or two.
