Hello. Has anyone ran into the P0701 code? My truck stalled out the other night. It was raining and I was running in 4 hi auto. I turned off the truck and restarted it. Ran fine. Then saw the check engine light the next day. Ttook to my buddy and he ran the scanner and that code came up. Quick google search said it's a code for 'transmission control system'. I have no clue what that means. He cleared the check light and everything seems to be running fine. Should I be concern? Will probably make an appointment at the dealer to have it look at. Thanks.

For clarification is your rig equipped with the selec-trac where it automatically switches between 2WD and 4WD or were you really running 4Hi in the rain?

It's called 4 hi auto. Not the regular 4hi/lo meant for dirt use only.

Hey guys, am raising the dead, at least its not ancient dead. I am doing this only because this is the only thread referencing Code P0701. My scenario is different than the OP's. I was drivign down the interstate and ran over something (no choice, better of two options). so I ran over it with passenger front tire, and immediately beeped and check engine light came on. I pulled off the interstate and when I put it in park I got an alert that the Stability Control System is offline. I restarted and the check engine light stayed on. I saw nothing incorrect for the next 200 miles. Driving up to 85 on the interstate, no shakes/wobbles hands off steering wheel she was as straight as any jeep could be so no real apparent alignment issues (although I will have that checked). But the check engine light stayed on all the way home. GOt home uloaded the jeep from the wekend away and took it to autozone to pull the codes. BY the time I got there the check engine light was out and when they pulled they got the P0701 code.

Since check engine went away anything to be concerned of besides the obvious check alignment. This is a stock non-lifted Mojave.

Thanks in advance.

Error code P0701 indicates a transmission control system range/performance issue detected in the TCM. If the P0701 was a true fault, then your transmission should have defaulted to limp mode and had a noticeable change to how the transmission acted/shifted. That code can possibly be caused by either a rapid deceleration (actual), or by a false rapid deceleration indicated by faults in the ABS.

Given the fact you ran over something, an inspection of the underside of the truck would be a good idea, with special attention paid to the ABS wheel speed sensors/harnesses and transmission harnesses.

*edit to add*
There's also a decent sized connector for the transmission harness located at the rear of the passenger front wheel well behind the fender liner, couldn't hurt to take a peek there too.

Not even close.
Interesting how people misunderstand the various transfer cases and how they operate.
