That's why I'm thinking of color-matched line-x, because that way I can just throw the freedom panels on the ground-- don't have to worry about chipping paint or anything like that.
I am extremely extremely paranoid about the least thing happening and I am very cautious with stuff.
Sorry, but I'm getting mixed signals here.

What if you wanted your hard top to be a contrasting color? Then, is there an idea of how much it may cost?

I thought about doing this but ultimately decided against it. I very much prefer the look of the painted hard tops, but the black is just more functional. I’ve already chipped it, but fixing will be easy.

The line-x sounds like a happy medium except it can be heavy and I still have to lift my top off without a hoist.

Yeah. I dunno what I'm gonna do. I thought the Bestop Sunrider might be cool and if that's the case maybe I won't take the the back part of the top off that often. I dunno.

I honestly think I would ultimately prefer the regular painted top and not Line-X.. The Line-X is gonna have that bed cover look.

I wonder if you can buy a hard top already painted. but it's probably gonna be out of stock until Jesus comes back, like everything else seems to be.

I am .... really ... careful with my stuff. I put my phone carefully in one pocket. Nothing else goes in that pocket. I don't use my phone until I get a tempered glass screen protector on it, even if it means I don't have a phone until it arrives in the mail.
It's your money, but if you are worried about scratches on your hard top, don't even think of taking it off-roading. Even at the mall you might get scratches. Better yet, buy mud flaps so stones won't chip your paint or line-x the body.
We take off the panels in a two stall garage without issues.

Maybe. I just really want to know the cost to compare to getting it line-x'd. I'll do a search on marketplace but if it's an ordeal trying to get a price or find one. If I have to go to an estimate I will, just at a closer dealer / body shop but I'm not driving 30 minutes to find out just a cost.

I rented a Wrangler that had a white painted top.. and the paint was chipped on the top from repeated removal. That's why I'm thinking of color-matched line-x, because that way I can just throw the freedom panels on the ground-- don't have to worry about chipping paint or anything like that.
I will say if you off-road much the black textured doesn’t get scratched like a painted does. I ride some tight trails and don’t have to worry about branches rubbing it. Then again I’m on east coast.

Seems like it would have been easier to just drive to the body shop as opposed to asking for input and then telling everybody that said input is wrong. There’s way more prep work on a textured and non-porous surface than a surface that either is painted or designed to be painted. At least if you want it to actually stick.
Yes 30 min jeez drive over there. I have to drive that far for everything.

Can you wrap a black top with its texture??
I believe it has been done, I think by the guy who has the YT channel Trail recon, he did it on his JK/ JL, but I could be wrong on who did it, it was a while ago I saw a guy do it....If I can find the post I will share.

here is a link to one of his YT posts on wrap....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwvsDJT5B3w

looks like a textured paint finish like my JTO, not a color match paint finish that he is getting wrapped

I don’t think it was Brad, but I could be wrong.

I just picked up my hardtop after having the standard black smoothed out and paint matched to my white Gladiator. $1500. Looks nice. Here is a before and after.

That's a good price, too. I was quoted over 2200 but the that was for the dealership collision center to do the work. But then such work not only varies by shop but by region, too.
Well done. Looks good.

One reason I ordered a JT first time around was lack of anyone at that time ever having even seen a blue with top body color, let alone have one. Two dealerships - the sales staff walked to the front and stared out the window at my blue with blue top JT when I first got my first one.
I asked one guy and he said "we've never seen one, everyone wanted to see it" LOL
And my wife insisted on purple roof for her purple JL so that made it harder to find - or add over 2 grand to have it painted and likely not be a great match as that reign is a color that's amazing when clean and you stare deep into it. It's got other color "sparkles" buried in it.

On that note, even my first JT if you looked just right when it was clean you could tell it had been sprayed apart from the rest of the truck, maybe even at a different angle. It matters when matching any metallics, in my experience. Hang the doors and hood back on the car (or truck) before spraying the color.
