I've had two Jeep dealers and a tire shop all jack the pressure up to 40-41 after they worked on my Gladiators.
The door sticker plainly said 38 - and the tires on it now should only be 36 according to the tire company engineer.
WTH is up with that magic 40 number, anyway?
I used to have that same issue. I get my jeep back with my 40's at 40psi.
I politely told them and had them add a note in my file to not ever set my tire pressures for me. She likes 28.

I had that experience when I had my new wheels installed by a Truck customizing business that installs lifts ect. Told them to set at 38psi and got home and after letting the tires cool down I had tire pressures all over the place they where 41,38,36,42 psi ....?‍♂ Plus the installer skinned 3 of the 4 wheels on the outer edge about 4 to 5 " long. Got 2 replaced waiting on the 3rd....

In the dealership I work in, we were told years ago to inflate tires to three or four psi over the number called for on the door sticker. I tried to account for temperature when adjusting tire pressure, but some guys just went for 40 psi. and let it ride. I am sure some techs would pump the tires up to 40 psi to make sure that the TPMS light didn't come on. Of course, once the tire sizes are changed from stock, the door sticker recommended pressure is no longer guaranteed to be close to what is needed.
