Hey all! I have a ‘21 JTR that I have setup with a bedrack, rooftop tent, etc for camping/overlanding. I just received new wheels (method 705’s) and will be upgrading the tires next. Wondering what everyone runs for tire size with a similar setup.

I’ve been planning on 35x12.5 Ridge Grapplers mostly due to not wanting to regear right away. Can’t justify the cost of $2-3k just to do one size bigger but wanted to see if anyone else had a similar situation.

Any pics or advice would be great! Thanks!

Yup. You don’t NEED bigger tires, but you could slap some 315/70-17’s on your “rims” to complete that epic mall crawler look. That’s what I’m debating about doing at the moment (I’ve got new wheels in the garage myself).

~35’s and JTR’s go together like peas and carrots.

Yeah I agree! 35’s just seem like a natural tire size for the JT. The 33’s just feel a tad too small for the size of it. I wanted new wheels anyway as I am not a fan of the stock Rubicon wheels. Figured I might as well go to 35’s while I’m at it.

I’m running 37” Toyo R/T’s on a 2-1/2” Icon lift.

I honestly don’t have much issue running the 37’s with the JTR’s 4.10 gears. I don’t see 8th gear very often but even being slightly over GVWR (I’ve scaled it), I still get 15 highway and 13.6 in town.

I might move back to 35’s when these wear out but only because it’s a bit too tall when cooking, etc. I carry several step stools in order to do various things.

I do run 35’s on both my JKUR’s and those are my “crawlers”/daily drivers.

Thats a nice setup! Thanks, I haven’t heard much feedback from running 37’s without a regear. Nice to see it’s a possibility! I’m getting about that mpg now on 33’s tbh.

I regeared my 2016 JKUR from the factory 3.73 to 4.56 when I went to the 35’s because “everyone said you need to” but I honestly didn’t notice much difference when I did it.
So with the Gladiator, I had the stock 4.10’s and figured I’d play it by ear. I get better mpg with the fat overlander than I do with either JKUR I drive. I think that new transmission in the JL’s and JT’s makes all the difference.

I’d say put your 35’s on and see what you think. You can always then regear if you aren’t happy with its performance.

Ok , coming from 37s on 4.10 , then regeared . I would say if you live at elevation or with alot of hills , tow , ect . 4.10 and 35s will still leave you wanting deeper gears . However 35s would still work well enough to get by for a long while with the 4.10s . This leaves you a fair amount of feeling out time to decide your endgame . IMO 35s and 4.88 would be a good OL choice . They will work great , and leave you room to go to a 37 potentially. If I'm being honest 37s for real deal long haul OL is a fuel mileage killer and could become a turn off , depends on your pockets (fuel+tires alone) and frequency of use. I just came back from an OL / vacation from MI to CO and back 3500 mi , 37s and 5.13 . Got 14.5mpg . 3.6 8spd . Glad I didn't F around with less than 5 .13s Our JLU gets 20+ on 35s fully loaded fwiw.

I would go MT baja boss AT over the ridge graper , having used both . Both great , but the Boss AT is superior snow and wet .imo.
