Good evening all, first post on this site. Long time Jeep owner and wanting a Rubicon pretty badly right now. I currently drive a 2016 Toyota Tundra as my daily driver. I also have a 2002 TJ that is my weekend vehicle, the TJ is built up pretty nice with all Currie parts and running on 35’s. I have been considering selling both vehicles and buying a Gladiator Rubicon to consolidate down to one less vehicle I own. Pretty hard decision as I like my TJ a lot, Tundra is fine but a dime a dozen for those trucks. Has anyone out there got rid of a pickup and a TJ for a new Gladiator? Just curious if the Gladiator fits the bill for a Jeep plus a truck? Bonus for me also is the company I work for gives me a vehicle allowance for work so the Gladiator would get some miles but would be paid for by the company I work for.

I sold my 2003 Tundra TRD and then bought the Gladiator Rubicon. These vehicles are primarily used for hunting (off road woods roads). You will get better gas mileage with the Gladiator if that is important. My Tundra was an extend cab so the Gladiator has more seating room. You loose a little truck bed length with the Jeep, but it is much easier to unload bags of mulch etc. with the Jeep. The Tundra had a limited slip rear and the Rubicon has two lockers. The Tundra had 32" tires and no lift and the Gladiator came with 33" and can be easily increased to 35s or 37s. The Gladiator's ground clearance is better.

The two trucks have similar dimensions but the Jeep is easier to park in malls having a better turning radius ( I did check the numbers but by just by feel).


The Tundra is quieter and rides smoother but I am very happy with my new Gladiator. The gladiator is the better off road vehicle and the Tundra is better for highway use. I love my Gladiator and did not get rid of my TJ for it but did sell it years ago due to having to use as a daily driver making maintenance and fuel costs ridiculous. Since I did love the TJ and had it built the way I wanted, but always wanting to add more I should have kept it as a weekender and still miss having a capable rock crawler. Not to say the Gladiator can't be, it just isn't what I see this truck as, even though I do have a rubi

I didn't get rid of a TJ but I traded my 2016 JK Rubicon and and sold my 2012 Ram Longhorn 1500 for my Rubicon Gladiator. Like you, I loved both vehicles and used the truck to carry passengers and haul occasional loads and pull a trailer. The little JK Rubi to go out and play. My kids are grown so it is just me and my mutt now. Loved my truck, loved my jeep, so when the gladiator came out I thought why not a Jeep Truck. It works great for me. Honestly, it cant haul what the 1500 Ram could or go the places that the 2 door Rubi could go but I don't wheel that hard anymore and I'm retired so it is perfect for me. Don't have to pay registration fees, insurance, fuel costs, and maintenance for two vehicles anymore. I couldn't be happier. My Gladiator is doing just great. I would do it again if I had to.

Guys, thank you for your replies. My wife are close to being empty nesters, one last kid in college. Just trying to downsize a little myself. Just tough to give up my TJ. i am still on the fence but will let you know what I do.
