Did this fall off my jeep? Mechanics help identifying please.

Old guy posting pics alert so here’s link to my Instagram to see this strange part. It was covered in grease and looking under and everywhere I can think I can’t see where this may have come from? If it came from my jeep? Was on a friends driveway and they have a jeep too, so we’re both wondering who’s rig this fell off, one manual JT and one auto JL.

Could be totally wrong. But it looks like half of a broken CV joint housing.

Where does the JL or JT use CV joints? (honest question, I thought everything was U-joint)

The driveshafts have a hybrid joint, that may have a carrier. If you have part time auto 4h transfer case, a 4xe, or a diesel your front axle has cv joints.

The diesel at least mine....does not have a CV joint.

Where the front output shaft of the transfer case mates with the drive shaft?
I could of sworn it's a CV joint there. u-joint where the driveshaft mates with the output on the axle itself.

I'll have to look at mine and see.

Missed the driveshaft part of that. I was speaking of the axle to the front hubs.

I would think you would know if that fell off your Jeep! Definitely a CV cage.

yeah, it will make some bad noises flopping around in there.
On my old JK, even when it started slinging grease, it was making enough noise to be heard over M/T tires and that gosh awful minivan motor.

It wasn’t adding up, jeep drives fine and been giving er in 4wd all day so I had some reservations this came from my ride.

It was some cold when rolling away, like -30 cold. Did I pop this little booger off? It’s definitely sheared and cracked all over. Where do I look?

i think this could be it, except my friends jl rubicon which just got back from an accident and repairs, I have u-joints on front axle as my jt is a sport-s model, so I’m still waiting to hear back from friend to see if they can look at front axles and confirm, might not hear back till tomorrow, they t-boned a Ford F-150 and put it on a tow truck, Jeep drove away but needed a few fixie poo’s, so it’s starting to lean to the JL rubicon from seeing this link?
