Beat me to it - read and thought - deja vu all over again, I know I've seen this before.

I saw in a movie once this is how someone on the other side tried communicating. It almost took the duration of the whole movie for the person receiving the messages to figure it out.
Twilight Zone - Night Call
woman kept getting calls on the phone and the operator with the phone company said impossible. the lines are dead. She insisted and talked to the operator again and finally was told " it's not possible because the lines are DOWN" She asked where they were down, she wanted to go there.
But before she went to check the lines, the phone rang again and she was upset and told the caller, "leave me alone, I never want to hear from you again!"
She went out and found the downed phone lines.............
The lines over the cemetery were down and the ends laying on the grave of her fiancƩ who died in a car accident while she was driving.
sounded like he wanted to talk and forgive - too late, she'd already told him off.

Better description than mine -

An elderly woman, Elva Keene, is restricted to her bed or a chair due to injuries she received in a car accident. She receives strange anonymous phone calls in the middle of a stormy night. During the first calls she hears only static. Later she hears a man moaning and she repeatedly demands to know who is calling. The man continues to call and keeps repeating "Hello?" over and over. Finally he says, "Hello? Where are you? I want to talk to you." Elva, terrified, screams at the man to leave her alone.

The phone company traces the calls to a telephone line that has fallen in a cemetery.

Elva and her housekeeper, who believes the calls are the result of a bad connection, visit the cemetery where she finds that the line is resting on the grave of her long-deceased fiancƩ, Brian Douglas. Elva says that she always insisted on having her own way, and Brian always did what she said. Brian died a week before they were to be married. That day, she insisted on driving, lost control of the car and hit a tree. The accident crippled her and caused Brian to fly through the windshield, killing him.

Now that she can talk to him again, she won't have to be alone. At home, she picks up the phone and calls to Brian's ghost, pleading with him to answer. He replies that she told him to leave her alone and that he always does what she says. Then the line goes dead, leaving Elva alone and crying in her bed.

This is very sad.
Yes -

[closing narration]

Narrator: According to the Bible, God created the heavens and the Earth. It is man's prerogative and woman's, to create their own particular and private hell. Case in point, Miss Elva Keene, who in every sense has made her own bed and now must lie in it sadder, but wiser by dint of a rather painful lesson in responsibility transmitted from - The Twilight Zone.

Mine at least had a good ending. It was a love story. Might have made me cry. ANYWAY, don’t hijack the thread!
Back on track - mine has never tried to call. It's never done any such thing. I've had it connected multiple times, used Waze, Google maps, Amazon music and other stuff, even gone back to the truck's native screen, then back to AA and it's never tried making a call on its own, ever.
So I'm not sure where the "it always does that....." may be coming from.

When projection is turned on and your using one of the services IE; Navigation, messages, ect.. it will do this.
This is how some radio/phones communicate. Anytime i send a voice note while in my work truck (2020 silverado) it acts as if its a phone call to/from my number. Nothing to worry about.
Not sure where that comes from - no, the service, such as Android Auto, determines the communication, not the phone. the software controls that, regardless of phone type (any Android)
I've never seen it happen. Can't see why it would or should.

Neither of my JTs has done this.

Try unpairing your phone, then pair a different phone. I bet it won't do this with a different phone.
Oh I wish you were right but it did it with my iPhone 7 and then I upgraded to an iPhone 14 and it still does it. That is why I think it is a problem with the in dash entertainment center

well for what it’s worth I’ve never experienced this when using CarPlay (seems like OP has an iPhone too). It only happens when Im using the device via Bluetooth. CarPlay doesn’t work wirelessly as I’m sure you’re well aware of.
