The driver side rear seatbelt will not release. I cannot get this seatbelt to unlock. Does anyone have a suggestion, that would NOT require removing the plastic trim, to release the seatbelt. Thanks in advance.

So you can't press the release lever/button?

The seatbelt is retracted. I cannot "unretract" it (if that is a real word :).

Can you pull any slack whatsoever in the belt or is it completely taut?

You’ll have to open the seatbelt feeder itself. Clean it out and make sure there’s no gremlin goo in there. I’ve had this on other vehicles in the past and that’s really the only fix if you can’t use brute force to knock it loose. Basically the mechanism in there that locks the seatbelt is clogged or out of whack and needs to be corrected.

Maybe 1/8 inch of slack.
Yep. There’s a tab in there designed to lock
In place during a collision. If it gets unseated it won’t release the belt. You know like when on an extreme angle and the seat belts lock in? Same concept. It’s probably plastic in this day and age. Just needs to be reset into its channel. Takes maybe 30-45 minutes to accomplish. Use trim tools and just go gingerly depending on the condition of your trim plastic. Give everything a good cleaning and dry lube while you’re in there. Just the mechanical parts. You can tape off the belt itself with painters tape to keep lube off of it.
