I could use some advice. I have zero chainsaws. I would like to get one though to help clear trees downed across the path, and maybe help clean this mess up...

Not sure if a 16-18" electric saw will be enough, but I'm also not looking to spend $500+

Stihl 362 with a 25" bar.
Yeah the 362 is ok but for not much more the 661 (with a 48" bar not pictured) can probably handle more... ;):bandit:

for $180 the Stihl MS170 is a great saw. Electric is ok, but I've seen many reports of the tool less tensioning and bar mounting systems not being stout enough to handle more than light work. Yes it's convenient but you shouldn't need to remove the bar and chain often at all. The standard 2 nuts and a scrench just work better. It allows for better tensioning and the saw will hold the tension. The last thing you want is to be out and about and ruin a chain because the bar comes loose. I dropped a 30" dbh ash tree 2 weeks ago with my 170. I don't think any electric would have been able to hack it.

If you want to work 20 minutes at a time over a couple of weeks, then electric is fine.

But that sounds ridiculous to me.

Pretty much any cheap gas saw can tackle that job.

Would I realistically need more than 20 minutes to cut that up? At least enough to get it off the dock. I would be okay doing it in 2 shots (give it a couple hours to recharge).

Honestly, I do appreciate the advice. It seems that like tattoos, few people have just one. I will definitely keep the gas Stihl/Husky on the wish list. I just feel like I'd be buying a Rubicon to hit the mall.

I have a 36" bow saw if I want to be cheap and masochistic...
