In Europe nearly every vehicle nav system and gps are integrated to receive OTA traffic and emergency information. Unlike some similar systems here (garmin) the EU version is free. It was pretty awesome to know in advance of traffic issues or weather conditions on the road without running your phone.

From the article it sounds like the system will eventually allow more comprehensive information sharing and will be backward compatible with 2018+ models. If they can get the nav to integrate and display the feed it would be a really nice feature.
