I know this sounds crazy, but is there a seal, or a gasket, or a block or a something in the steering column that blocks noise from the engine from coming up through the steering column? It is not the steering box and the jeep doesn’t have to be moving or steering being turned.

From time to time we get extremely loud engine bay noises coming up through the steering column like a cover or sound baffling gave way. It’ll do this for a while and then stop. It is louder than the AC or radio playing, like we are in front of the jeep with hood up kind of loud and all coming through the steering column.

Look, if everybody just starts taking their vehicle to the dealership at the first sign of trouble, we're gonna have nothing to talk about on the forum before long. So, please, save the "Did you take it to the dealership?" question until at least page three of a thread.

The first time I had crazy road noise coming in, turned out it was the drain plug in the floor mat.

Plugs are firmly in place and it is literally coming up through steering column. And it’s not road noise, as it does it when at a complete stop. You can cup your hands over the horn area and muffle it so to speak.
