Exhaust heat shield

I am curious if any one else has noticed this issue.
I was driving the Gladiator on the highway, barefoot, and realized the floor under my left foot was too hot for my foot.
I have the factory heat shield on the body - I was wondering if adding an extra heat shield on the exhaust pipe would be recommended?
Mopar does sell a variety of exhaust heat shields - wondering what you all think.

I found that extended driving with the AC on its more prevalent, especially if you don't split the fan between the dash and floor.
