I ordered my Jeep with the MOPAR headliner installed, not realizing that you can't just mount patches to it.

has anyone come up with a way to mod the MOPAR headliner so that you can attach the loop side of hook and loop.

I've been contemplating several ideas but I don't want them to fail in cold weather and leave the headliner a gunky mess. I have used fabric weld in the past when my uniform needed a patch update for an inspection and I didn't have time to get it sewn on but that requires a run through the dryer to set

Sell the Mopar headliner, and make your own. I think I'm into mine for maybe $60. 1/4" Styrofoam board from HD (peel off the shiny plastic otherwise it'll interfere with your Sirius reception) and order sheets of loop-side material from McMaster-Carr to cover them with, and hold your patches. The MCMaster stuff is actually a really nice material that's fine enough to look just like normal headliner fabric but it's actually loop-side Velcro. For mounting to the hardtop, don't bother with the self-stick velcro strips, use sew-on (non-sticky) velcro strips to mount it with good hot-glue. I think the loop material came to about $50, maybe another $10 for the foam board. Painted the inside of the hardtop satin black and the panels look great and my patches aren't going anywhere.

Would you be able to staple a sheet of the hook side to the headliner?

Cut a sheet of the hook Velcro to the shape of the headliner then glue and staple to the headliner...
