I have a Willy's that has stock 255/75-17 Mud Terrains and am looking to get a better winter A/T tire.

Falken Wildpeak AT4W comes in:

255/80-17, Load Range E, weight: 58.1 lbs.
285/70-17, Load Range C, weight: 65.4 lbs.

I like the lighter weight and slightly taller size of the 255, but am not sure about the load range of E causing a harsh ride.

I have that size in AT3W and prefer them to the stock Mojave/Rubicon size. They are about 10 lb each lighter than the stock size (52 vs 62 lb) but I think you can get AT4W only now. I have no issues with the ride from them being E rated.

The E rating isn't going to cause a harsh ride when purchasing a quality tire. I have had three E rated sets of Falken AT3W's and they have been my overall favourite of many different tires over the years when it comes to an all around tire. The only place I've preferred my Toyo MT's is in really slick spots on trails. I am currently running Cooper AT3 XLT's and did so for the lighter weight in 37's. The ride is no better with the lighter D load rating, in fact the cornering is sloppier with the softer sidewall. My past Cooper ST Maxx in D rating we rougher than the E rated Falkens. I will look to go back to the Falkens next round.

I like the Dueler AT Ascents nice ride to them and never had any problems. It's just up to each individual whether you are off roading or highway driving.

At4w 285/75 r18 on my Overland stock wheel, adding CLAYTON 1.5 Ride Right with Fox shocks shortly.
Nice Ride, much improved cornering and stability over stock tire. Perfectly tucked in fender.

I have the AT4's E rated and am very happy. no issues. rides great w Mopar 2" lift. I stuck w 285/75/17's to keep gearing normal for towing. have a friend w Mohave /35's and it doesn't seem any better on the road or trail.
